Gaps in Medial Care

Is anyone working with a Doctor who accepts Medicare, has hospital

priveleges and who also is knowledgeable about CFIDS and Lyme Disease?

It appears, we can find Doctors who have incorporated alternative and

holistic approaches. Doctors who have not let the prevailing

prejudice surrounding CFIDS and Lyme Disease to deter their

committment to us.

However, most of this Doctors do not accept Medicare, and/or they do

not have Hospital affiliations or priveledges.

It is a gap in our Medical Care which needs to be addressed.

It appears to be a major hurtle that many of us have to jump. Quite

frankly, I am too sick to be jumping through these hoops and hurtles.

So I thought I would ask the group how they are handling this.

Sincerely,

is

is,

I have run into the same sort of thing. I still have medical

coverage from my wife's job (--she has CFS too, but has recovered

enough to work as a college instructor). However, even our insurance

(and it is a good plan) covers just 60% of only the alternative doc

who treats CFS in this area. Why don't these folks become " approved

providers, " so that medicare and other health insurance plans cover

them? Traditional docs are quick to say that it because they are

ripping off patients by offering unproven treatments. I suspect the

truth is that insurance companies won't pay them for " unproven "

treatments. I know my alternative doc (with a Yale medical degree,

no less), gets a ton of crap from the medical establishment.

Thankfully, he continues to practice.

I think that some of them are providing treatments that won't be covered. But I

have seen a lot of it is because it is so time consuming dealing with insurance.

The regular doctors have no choice, but they have 5 staff members per doctor (or

more) to deal with it. I can't blame a doctor for just simplifying and not

playing the insurance game. Of course it is only worth it for us if they are

very good. One guy I went to, I always left feeling ripped off for my $300-$400

an hour. Now I have a great doctor and he is worth whatever he charges me.
