Phosphatidyl Choline Questions

In light of the fact that phosphatidyl choline is being used as part of the

Kane detoxification protocol, I decided I wanted to try to learn more about

it, and also to try it, myself. But I'm getting rather confused about what

it does, and why I react to it the way I do.

My understanding so far that I'm not sure about is that phosphatidyl choline

is used as part of the membrane of cells. It helps to control whether the

cells are able to absorb nutrients, and expel wastes. In the case of

phosphatidyl choline, it is being replaced in cell walls with lipid soluble

neurotoxins, that then hamper cell function? Or that somehow phosphatidyl

choline is being damaged by the lipid soluble toxins? And that replacing it

with undamaged phosphatidyl choline displaces the damaged phosphatidyl

choline, or allows repair of the damaged cell wall, or it latches onto

neurotoxins before they have a chance to damage cells, and then is escorted

through the bile out of the body? And that phosphatidyl choline is used to

make acetylcholine.

Somehow I am confused about this. Could someone comment on this?

Also, in my case, when I take supplemental phosphatidyl choline, it makes me

irritable, and totally stress intolerant, and causes my panic attack

problems to flare up. It seems to make my autonomic system more

hypersensitive, and dysregulated. It also seems to stimulate hypoglycemia

problems in me, and totally screws up my small muscle control. I've been

using a supplement that my naturopath recommended to help with cognitive

function called Huperzine A, which is supposed to be an acetylcholine

esterase inhibitor. It does help, somewhat. When I take it too close to

bedtime in too large a dose, it keeps me from being able to go to sleep or

to sleep soundly. But taking it earlier in the day, (lunch or earlier) I

don't seem to have a problem with it. I think I may misunderstand what role

Huperzine A plays with acetylcholine, but it seems to me that somehow the

phosphatidyl choline is screwing up my acetylcholine levels, but I'm not

sure if it is causing too much or too little of it, because I don't clearly

understand what role acetylcholine plays. Although the Hyperzine A seems to

help some, I'm not sure if I'm making things worse or better with it, since

it has something to do with acetylcholine.

I seem to recall reading a study some months ago about there being a

deficiency of acetylcholine in the brains of PWC's, but there being an

excess of choline. So in light of my reaction, I'm trying to figure out

whether I am reacting as though I have an excess of acetylcholine in my

brain or body, or whether I'm acting like I have a deficiency of it. And why

does the phosphatidyl choline affecting me the way it is?

I can't tolerate oral PC--not the Elyte (American Lecithin Company)

liquid or even Designs for Health PC. The former, the ethanol

alcohol and glycerides, I was instantly sensitive to. The latter

tasted good but it made me itchy, chilled, etc. I guess I have an

allergy to it in that concentrated form. It's from soy. Maybe you do

too.

Hi , what is bioset?

Have you been tested for the form of PC you have?

I saw that ARG makes a kind of nano-lipid formulation for the cells.

I was considering trying that. But you know, there are different

ways to detox. If your body is saying, " No, " then perhaps just stop,

that's what I did. Sometimes later on I can try somethign again and

it's okay. For me the side effects weren't that bad but I also know

that oral is not super effective, because it goes through various

steps and only part of it remains PC and gets into the cells. So you

have to take a lot.

, no offense intended, but how would we know how lecithin

affects acetylcholine? We're not specialists. Perhaps a pubmed

search will reveal research, otherwise its probably speculative. I

suspect its an allergy on your part, bioenergetics aside (I've often

found those tests/treatments to be very inaccurate, not saying yours

is, maybe yours works great)...thats why I briefly suggested. You

sound irritable at having to discuss that so I'll refrain, I was just

trying to make a helpful suggestion.

My understanding is that the main purpose of using phosphatityl choline is

to clean the liver. The biliary system becomes conjested with toxins

and we are not able to detox. Dr Kane told me that the IV pushes are

half bile and half PC. She recommended that I take bile with my oral PC.

I was having symptoms of fatigue, etc when I increased my PC dosage.

Now I have the flu, so I have not attempted the bile yet.

I believe that you might find answers to your questions in the paper

written by Drs Kane, Speight et al about detoxing neurotoxins.

I *think* this is the URL for the paper:

http://www.mercola.com/2003/aug/9/detoxification biotoxins.htm

If that doesn't work you could search Dr Mercola's site or do a search

using the title:

The Detoxx System: Detoxification of Biotoxins in Chronic Neurotoxic Syndromes

or, do a search on Kane PhD.

Good luck,

Michele
