Wait a minute. Am I missing something here? What happened to this philosophy?: > A low stress tolerance level, due to not external factors but maybe > an inherited weakness or imbalance or susceptibilty to imbalance in > this internal system. > And thus in the point I was trying to make not psychological stress or > external stressors in the enviroment but a nervous and endocrine > system not working optimal in people that have contracted cfs. > Per And then I thought we had finally reached solid conclusion here when I said: Hey! Then we're in total agreement that it's not psychological stress or external stressors at all but a dysregulated stress response in people that have contracted CFS. So we don't need to waste any more time on " triggers " . We've got to look at what created a suboptimal condition that left people susceptible to " stressors " that most people consider harmless or downright enjoyable. -
Guest guest
Per, Thanks for your study. I have some question about CFS and serotonin.I am not sure if low cortisol is linked to low serotonin. How can we know if we are serotonin deficient or not. Are there any clues to that other than testing. I have low cortisol at this point of my illness but I am not sure if I have low serotonin.I am taking 5 HTP to help me with sleep.I wonder if I am making a mistake. Thanks Nil Research on stress, (not wessely), articles etc > > hi all > > For those who are interested gathered a few links to some articles on > stress reponse and how it may tie in with cfs. > > I think a good theory as long it has some arguments to back it up > deserves attention. >
Guest guest
Nil, There is such a thing as serotonin syndrome, meaning too much of it. (I don't think it occurs naturally.) It is a very acute dangerous condition- and is cured by stopping the source of the overdose. Sorry, I don't have the symptoms handy, but I think you can google that. Having said that, it is very unlikely that any ordinary dose of 5-HTP could harm you. The question is, is it helping you to sleep? I used to use it, but find tryptophan is much more effective. If either of these are helping, you could infer that there was a need for more serotonin Adrienne Research on stress, (not wessely), articles etc > > hi all > > For those who are interested gathered a few links to some articles on > stress reponse and how it may tie in with cfs. > > I think a good theory as long it has some arguments to back it up > deserves attention. > This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
Adrienne, Nothing helps me with sleep in these days. 5 HTP used to help me but it does not any more. I am having strange problem. This is completely new to me. If you would remember I have a feeling of swelling on the left side of my brain. When I go to bed it hurts.I can not sleep. I am not wired neither depressed but just can not go into sleep. I just steer the ceiling as if I have never known sleeping. Than I sleep very late because of tiredness. at 5:00 a.m. or 07:00 a.m. 2 nights ago I did not sleep at all. I wonder if this is something similar to what happens in mania.Nothing helps. Valerian, passion flower, pharmaceuticals at my normal dosage,Melatonine, nothing.Strange thing is that I don't collapse much with this.If this happened to me a year ago I would collapse next day.I don't know if I am going crazy. Something is going on in my brain. I hope I can reverse it.
