Here's some more information about Goldenseal in case youre interested: Goldenseal is a potent plant and must be used with care. Do not take on a daily basis for more than a week at a time. Eating the fresh plant can cause inflammation of the mucous tissue In high doses, goldenseal can irritate the skin, mouth, throat, and vagina. If any of these develop, stop taking immediately. It may cause nausea and diarrhea. If any of these develop, stop taking immediately. Do not use during pregnancy; it may stimulate the uterus. Do not use goldenseal without consulting a physician if you have had heart disease, diabetes, glaucoma, a stroke, or high blood pressure. It stimulates the heart muscle, and the result is increased blood pressure. Do not give goldenseal to children under two. Start with small doses for older children and adults High doses may interfere with vitamin B metabolism. Golden Seal should not be used by individuals with hypoglycemia. The main alkaloid constituent of Goldenseal is berberine. The topical application of Goldenseal or berberine to the skin or eyes raises the possibility that an adverse phototoxic reaction may result from an interaction between the alkaloid and light. These findings suggest that exposure to sunlight or artificial light sources emitting UVA should be avoided when topical preparations derived from Goldenseal or containing berberine are used. - Chem Res Toxicol 2001 Nov;14(11):1529-34 -- Photochemistry and photocytotoxicity of alkaloids from Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis L.) 1. Berberine. -- Inbaraj JJ, Kukielczak BM, Bilski P, Sandvik SL, Chignell CF. Report describes the case of a 32-year-old woman who suffered a phototoxic reaction after taking a dietary supplement containing ginseng, goldenseal, bee pollen, and other ingredients. On presentation, she had a pruritic, erythematous rash, localized to the sun-exposed surfaces of her neck and extremities. She had no significant past medical history and was not taking any other medications. The skin rash slowly resolved after discontinuation of the supplement and with treatment including subcutaneous and topical corticosteroids. Although the individual ingredients in this dietary supplement have not been associated with cases of photosensitivity, it is possible that the combination of ingredients may have interacted to cause this toxic reaction. - J Toxicol Clin Toxicol. 2003;41(6):865-7. -- Photosensitivity reaction in a woman using an herbal supplement containing ginseng, goldenseal, and bee pollen. -- Palanisamy A, Haller C, Olson KR. Guest guest
Hi all, Thanks to all who have answered my eczema question. I have further question in my mind that I can not solve.I am 49 years old and I have never had eczema problem. I used to have contact dermatitis quite easily but never had eczema. This is something new to me.It indicates to me that either my detox organs have come to a very bad shape or I am allergic to something I have lately used. I am going to list you the supplements or components of supplements I had prior to onset of eczema.Would you think any of these compounds could have caused me to have eczema or too heavy for my liver? L-methionine 800 mg per day Choline 400 mg per day Iniostol 400 mg per day Milk thistle 400 mg/day dandelion 400 mg/day black raddish powder 400 mg/day beet root powder 400 mg/day golden seal powder 400 mg/day Chlorella about once a week 2000-3000 mg B12 1000 mcg hydroxycobalamim sublingual once in 2 or 3 days. Oh,I just remembered my B-12 injections. It could well be the preservatives at my B-12 injections.I had injections about once a week. It contained some benzyl alcohol,Sodium Tartarat,Tartaric acid,Lidocain HCL, Propyl Gallat. Thanks in advance. Nil

Guest guest
On or about Thursday, January 22, 2004 9:50 PM [GMT+1=CET], Nil <ng2113@...> sprinkled letters onto the page, saying: > Hi all, > Thanks to all who have answered my eczema question. > Would you think any of these compounds could > have caused me to have eczema or too heavy for my liver? > Choline 400 mg per day - RASH > Oh,I just remembered my B-12 injections - ITCHING > Lidocain HCL - ALLERGIC REACTIONS My eczema seems to be the other way round to yours, or rather I have eczema but since taking samento I have been plagued with contact dermatitis and cannot wear a watch for too long or have contact with detergents or some perfumes. (Stainless steel and nickel are the worst offenders). I am OK with gold or silver jewellery but any other metal causes terrible rashing... Over-treatment with some drugs can cause eczema. > Thanks in advance. > Nil Take care, Kezzi. . . GBS & CIDP WORLDWIDE http://gbs.ukweb.nu/ NEW!!
