do you get worse when you go down there? If doing laundry would make you tired

in any case, why don't you spend a little time down there inactive?

mold from wet carpet

I have mold in my basement because water came in and went all over the

carpeting. It has been dry for awhile. Are there any companies who could clean

out the mold? Do I need to rip up the carpeting? I have started to throw out the

boxes that got wet. Any suggestions? I only go to the basement to do laundry.

If you are sure that there is mold there, this is a very serious case. The

situation is urgent. You might get severely effected while you make searches

on finding a solution.I would advice you to take it off as soon as

possible. There is only one option I would think of trying. You might keep it

somewhere outside your house, wash it throughly in summer time and let it

stay under summer sunshine for a while. That might help.I am not sure that

it will be 100 % solution but might be checked.

Dr Shoemaker uses a lab that will test the carpet for mold. you just

cut off a sample from a suspicious area put it in a baggy and send it

to him with a check made out to the lab.

i think the company is called P & K microbiology. they are in NJ. maybe

you can send it to them directly if you do not have any contact with

Dr Shoemaker.

but if you think mold might be at the center of your problems, Dr

Shoemaker is the man to see. he does consults over the phone if you

can't go to see him.

email me if you have any questions.

thanks

The mold thing can really be a can of worms (or mushrooms). I think it depends

on how allergic you are to mold,

what species of mold are there, and how extensive the damage is. After speaking

to experts,

I was told that the really

nasty species are not very common, that a lot of it is media hype.

Also you may need to assess the extent of the mold - is it just in the

carpeting, or did it get into the

pad and subflooring? If you remove it, where can you put it until summer? If you

roll it

up and put it in the garage it would be mold heaven. Then the spores would still

be alive to sprout

when it gets damp enough. Maybe at least the carpeting can be very well steam

cleaned and elevated

so it throughly dries?

Is there anyone at NEEDS who knows about this stuff?

We went through a thing last year where the rain came through a leaky window and

down an inside wall

and landed on the subflooring with no place to go but up through the pad and

carpet

until we had mushrooms growing. We had to get a special restoration contractor

to come out

and set up a tent and remove all that was infected, including subflooring,

carpet, pad,

drywall, insulation, new window, etc., etc. It costs many thousands of dollars.

Now we're

broke! Oh yea, and last but not least the industrial hygenist who came in and

tested

for mold and charged an arm and a leg - literally fleeced us. The insurance co

of the

contractors required it.

Maybe you can set out mold plates to at least see how loldy it really is.

Best of luck,

Michele
