I recently moved to Brownsville, Tx and went to an ENT to ask for a

nasal swab and to be sent to Esoterix's to be tested. The ENT told me

they don't do deep nasal swabs as the swab will touch the tissue

inside the nasal passage on the way to the sinus cavity. I told him

about Shoemaker and Esoterix just a four drive from here doing

testing on them but still no. Anybody knowledgeable about such

matters care to comment on this. I wished I had Tony's email address

as he does testing also on this.

I don't know Tony - so can't help there. You might try running

off Dr. Shoemaker's testing protocol and reasons for the swab and

explain that you want the test anyway. I had to beg, more or less.

I arranged the test with the lab and asked one of my doctors to sign

off on it. I explained that I was paying for the test and planned

to send the results to Dr. Shoemaker for evaluation. One reason the

doc had was that he didn't know how to interpret the test nor how to

treat any results.

If you are new to the area you may not have that option of knowing

a doc who would oblige you. I had to learn how to become a squeaky

wheel.

Another thing you might try is to call Esoterix and explain your

problem. Maybe they can suggest a way for you to do the test

yourself and send it in to them. I found them very nice and helpful.

I hope you can find a way to get the test. I had no idea I had

such infections in the nasal passage. Most doctors don't even

consider such a thing.
