Under the Control Panel, Display, Appearance, click " advanced " . You will then be able to select " window " and set it to a color you like (default is white). You can change other things, too. The program you use for email may have separate settings. For example, I use Netscape 7.1, and under Edit, Preferences, Apppearance, Colors, you can select both text and background colors, or click on " system colors " which ought to follow the Windows settings. Another thing to consider is the hardware controls on your display. Not all monitors have this, but many do. Play around with Contrast and Brightness to see if you can find something tolerable. Hope this helps! I know there are many times when black-on-white is too blinding for me (like when I'm having or just recovering from a migraine). -- el (andreafrankel at sbcglobal dot net) " wake now!
