Guest guest
Recently I learned that Burascano has been recommending as part of his supplement protocol a form of magnesium I'd never heard of before. It's called " magnesium L-lactate dihydrate. " Knowing that different forms re what magnesium (and other per oral minerals) are bound to (I hope " bound " is the correct word to refer to the ion the magnesium is bound to) can make a difference in intestinal and/or cellular absorption I wanted to try this form. I found the company (Niche) who distributes it (it's made by Schering) as " Mag-Tab SR " and used their 800 # to call them. I spoke (ahem) with the president (I didn't ask for him!) who it turns knows the physician who 20plus years ago helped diagnose my magnesium problems (Mildred Seelig,M.D.). Neither Needs nor iherb (the two companies I get my supps from) had it or any other brand of this form. I told El Presidente that I couldn't get to Walmart (it's sold at Walmart!!!!!!) because of my illness, but I was reluctatnt to put out $ for it because I didn't like that it was (a) extended release, given that I think it best to take magnesium some distance in time from eating or taking other meds, and you cannot control it as a one- a-day sustained release; and (2) it had 2 forms of colloring (2 of the yellows) and with our illness the fewer of such things is much better. In fact I was surprised that Burrascano put his faith in something like that and thus I looked very hard for another brand that might not be sustained release and/or not with coloring. I found a product called Magnesium Lactate but the website didn't give the info as to whether it was one and the same as magnesium L-lactate dihydrate. I emailed them and they've never had the courtesy to reply! El Presidente is sending me a free bottle and says if I find it useful I can order directly from them. NOWHERE on my various urls for nonprescription supps could I find out about ingredients. I can't believe there isn't such a site. Next: Magnesium Gluconate. When M. Seelig diagnosed me my then doctor had done a hair analysis after I developed symptoms he recognized as those of inadequate magenesium and the hair analysis confirmed this. I went to the pharmacy and bought what my doc said to buy: magnesium gluconate. I use to sometimes take a whole bunch of pills when I felt symptommatic and it was like being a magnesium junkie; relief came very quickly (20 mins or so) and was startling. Recently someone suggested magnesium gluconate though I havent taken it for years. Neither NEEDs nor iHerb carries it! In searching I found 4 brands but again no info on what's in them, except the liquid form of one, made by Fleming, who also makes a tablet which I'd be interest in as well. The brands are Magonate, Magtrate, REX (!), and Almora. My pharmacy can get them but their distributor has no info on ingredients and they told me it would take them too much time to get that info on the web. It took me too much time also! And I've still failed. I have have a number of promising sites. The PDR for nonperscription drugs probably has it. I don't have that publication and can't find it on the web and assume you have to subscribe. Duh. Can you believe with all this marvelous technology that a sick person has to do so much work? And also fail? Does anyone have any info and suggestions. If I knew of a store that carried it I couldn't even get there, I'm too sick. On TV they're showing all the folks standing in line for flu shots. Any help would be appreciated. And also I find it so interesting that two major sources of supplements for us doesn't carry either of these products. Guest guest
Judith, I don't know if you happened to try glycinate form but I am very happy with it.Very absorbable.I get it from Needs. Klaire lab/magnesium complex. 200 mg of citrate form does not give the effect of 100 mg glycinate form.Taurate form is also good but I prefer glycinate. Thanks Nil 2 magnesium sallts--gluconate & L-lactate dihydrate--can't get adequate info Recently I learned that Burascano has been recommending as part of his supplement protocol a form of magnesium I'd never heard of before.
