Guest guest
I have osteoporosis in my spine, too. I met a endocrinologist who was newly out of medical school and he had learned that alot of osto is caused my a vitamin D deficiency. There is D2 and D3. I have forgotten which I was deficient in but he said that he has been testing his patients with osteo and they are turning up with this deficiency. And that changes the diagnoses. Many older Endo's don't check this as it is new. . The D will apparently help remineralize the bone. There's more to the story but I would need my notes. Guest guest
hi Joyce - > I just finished 6 mo. on coumadin and had a dexa bone scan. I have osteoporsis of the spine. I take fosamax once a week and did it while I was on coumadin. Do you have any suggestions about how I might build my bones back up. my doc suggested calcium 2 AEP (Beyond a Century and other places if you google) 2 caps a day, 1 mg. day/vit. K, 3 mg day/ Boron, I added fish oil for vit. D, especially during the winter and take 200-400 mg. magnesium a day. There have been some very mixed review of Fosamax and similar drugs - you can wind up with bones that are dense but brittle as it prevents bone from " remodeling " itself. Any kind of exercise you can do is great, especially light weights. Judith G
Guest guest
Another missing link. I am also taking Coumadin, at least until two clots are gone from the dead area of my left ventricle. Calcium is mentioned a lot to maintain bone, but I am taking magnesium Rxed by my doc in addition to vitamin D this is both for my cardiac function as well as improved levels of calcium and potassium in the blood. My bone densities have been Good, so far. Bob ************ Lucey wrote: >I have osteoporosis in my spine, too.
