Guest guest
-Steve: Though I've been plagued with sleep problems my other problems (symptoms) have trumped them and, besides, I've always had a personal prejudice/fear about sleep meds. However, recently when I reached a point that I felt that getting help with sleep was now essential, and though still feeling unwilling for all sorts of reasons to go with Ambien or Sonata, I tried one I think Cheney uses (or uses as part of a sleep protocol). It's Sinequan (doxepin) in very tiny doses. To my shock and delight it's helping me BIG TIME. It's I believe a tricyclin anti-d, whose lowest anti-d dose is 75 mgs. But it's effective with little kids who can't control nightime bed wetting, in 10 mgs. I was told that for us to sleep to get the exlixir because it's easier to dole out in small amount. I've never done more than 5 drops, which I think ends up being >5 mgs. The wonderful thing is that on tough days that interfere with sleep (my problem is almost always waking up too early and being too alert to get back to sleep though sometimes, albeit rarely, it's getting to sleep). I find I can " play " with when I take it and play with the dose, based on that night's problem, though some nights I have none and take none. But generally I take it when I wake up after sleeping several hours. If it's after 2 a.m. I take 2 drops. Sometimes 3. I then sleep quite well until about 7:30, meaning for me I get about 10 hours sleep. When I take it before sleeping at all I take 5 drops, and depending when I awaken and whether I feel I can get back to sleep on my own, I will take some or not. I have never had a trace of feeling drugged next morning. It's strength for us is that it is very anti-histaminic. However, for me, its anticholinergic properties, even at that ridiculously low dose, are making my nose stuffed. I get the generic cuz that's what my insurance will cover. I put it in a capsule though you don't have to. A doc previous once wrote for the l0 mg caps and I emptied them almost completely but at the time didn't stick with that. You could do that (use the caps) also. That doc offered to get it for me formulated into 2 mg caps, which for some reason I didn't pursue. At the time I was using Hickey Chemists in NYC. They might be formulating that dose since that doctor is still in NYC and very likely (don't know) might still be using them. Some find Klonopin helps. It doesn't, me. Judith -- In , " , T. Guest guest
I'm sure you know all these, but this is what I take Doxepin Klonopin Valerian Melatonin (I take a lot of this; I was worried but I read a lot about its antioxidant properties, and never anything negative. I take about 12 mg a night, including 3mg of time release and 9mg of sublingual) Ambien (also used to work great for me, but I recently restarted after a few years and it isn't working great anymore) I am also experimenting with 5HTP which seems to help. I can't say my sleeping is great. It seems like I will sleep well for a month or two, then lousy for a month or two. Generally I have found that doxepin helps me stay asleep without waking up too early Klonopin, without it sleep badly, seems like I wake up every 15 minutes although who knows how often it really is Melatonin and valerian help me get sleep, and if I wake up early to pee and feel like it might be a problem getting back to sleep, more valerian helps me pop back to sleep doris ----- Original Message ----- From: , T. Guest guest
If I use a room darkening window shade and some comfy, malleable ear plugs, I get up 1-2 hrs later than if not. I am not convinced that I am better off that way than sleeping less and napping. Still experimenting. Adrienne sleep meds and sorry Sorry for resending the digest. Are there any new sleep meds out there now? I have use Ambien for a long time but it stopped working. I have tried the ususal suspects. cheers Steve
