Guest guest
Hi, FUNC. You're right that viruses are pretty small. They range in size between about 10 and 200 nanometers. They are too small to be seen in an ordinary visible light microscope. However, they are still quite large in molecular terms. Small molecules such as DMSO are around a nanometer in size. DMSO is transported through the skin by the normal mechanisms of dissolution and diffusion in the material making up the skin. In other words, DMSO does not create large pores in the skin as it is transported, but must move through intermolecular spaces. Therefore, it is unable to assist in the transport of substances much larger than molecular size, such as viruses. Bacteria are much larger than viruses, in the range from about 1,000 to 20,000 nanometers, so they don't have a chance of diffusing through intact skin, with or without DMSO. I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with DMSO. If you change your mind about trying to understand why it made you sick, I think the questions to explore would be 1) what was the purity of the DMSO you used? 2) was you skin washed clean prior to applying the DMSO? and 3) how much did you apply? When I used to give myself enemas with DMSO in water, I found that if I used more than about a teaspoon, I had a headache for a while afterward. Like any other substance, the dosage is important. But when used appropriately, DMSO is really a remarkable substance. Rich > I used to use DMSO pre CFS for some injuries; it seemed to help alleviate > some nagging muscle pain. Guest guest
Hi Rich, What should one look for to be sure the DMSO is high/pure grade? Is it expensive? Do you have some reliable sites regarding using DMSO? Thank you Katrina > Hi, FUNC. > > You're right that viruses are pretty small. They range in size > between about 10 and 200 nanometers. Guest guest
Katrina, I have used 99.9% pure DMSO supplied by DMSO Inc., P.O. Box 439, Ghent, KY 41045, 1-800-367-6935, obtained at a health food store. I haven't experienced any problems from it. On the contrary, it rescued me from a lot of misery due to radiation proctitis. My son also found rapid help from it for a very sore neck after a traffic accident. Dr. 's website is www.dmso.org He is probably the foremost expert on DMSO and its various medical uses. Dr. Gregg's website is www.krysalis.net/dmso.htm There is also a link there to his work on DMSO in Crohn's disease. Dr. Gregg is very innovative and has found some new uses for DMSO.
