Guest guest
Rich and all, here are my results: PHASE I Detoxification: Cytochrome P-450 *Gene CYP1B1 there was a polymorphism. *Gene CYP2C19 there was a polymorphism. *The remaining six were normal. PHASE II: Methylation: *COMT - both chromosomes carry the genetic variation. Acetylation: Slow metabolizer polymorphism *Gene NAT2 -l114t one of the chromosomes carries the genetic variation. *The other five are normal. Fast metabolizer polymorphism *Gene NAT2 -k268R - one chromosome carries the genetic variation. Glutathione conjugation: *Gene GSTM1 -1p13.3 carries a NULL allele meaning no gene present on either chromosome. (The info that gene carries seems incredibly important, and to be missing it seems a potentially major factor - see below.) *The other two genes are normal. Oxidative protection: *Gene SOD2 -A16V One of the chromosome carries a genetic variation. Striking similarities to the results Per posted, and many similarities to those Gayathri posted. Hmmmm. Wish we had a healthy control group - are genetic variations more common in certain genes, or are we seeing something specific to CFIDS or chronic illness? No way to know without a control group and larger numbers. Wait, just read the last sentence of the report: " The prevalence and significance of some allelic variations may be population specific. " Hmm. Rich, if it helps (which it probably won't at this point), I'm caucasian of ish and German descent. The null result - my gene is MIA!!! The info it carries is not availble to my body!! My local doc thinks this missing gene could be a potentially major trigger for my illness. (Cheney hasn't seen these results and I've not had a chance to discuss them with him. I pray I do.) (Remember, for those new to this, these genes are either switched on or off; likely " off " earlier in life, turned on to one degree or another by stress, poor diet, toxins, etc.) And, BTW, that differentiates this from the gene arrays that the CDC and others are using. Genovations is looking at a small number of crucial genes, looking for inherited variants that could be problematic, but can't tell if they are on or off. (Our symptoms are a fair indicator!) The gene arrays can analyze tens of thousands of normal genes, looking to see which ones are on, and to what degree they are on. They are looking for patterns of activation that may be unique to certain illnesses. The CDC stuff is not about inherited abnormalities, it's about the level of activity of normal genes. At least that's my understanding at this point. Back to my gene that's MIA. I'm hoping / trusting that much/some of this info is redundant - carried on other genes, or that God has a plan B back-up system built into our genetic blueprints! This gene, glutathione-S-tranferase, carries info on how to detoxify many environmental toxins, including solvents, herbicides, fungicides, lipid peroxides, and heavy metals - like mercury, cadmium and lead!!!! The report also states that this gene affords protection against oxidative stress, especially by reducing hydrogen peroxide and by regenerating oxidized vitamins C and E. (I'm glad I've never done hydrogen peroxide treatments, and now I may know why I crash on high-dose viatamin C!). The report conclues it comments on this gene by saying that a lack of it may increase toxic burden and increase oxidative stress resulting in a greater risk for various cancers and fatigue syndromes, expecially if exposed to toxic compounds. Guest guest
Hi Carol Thanks for sharing your results. The test results are actually identical! This should be important. Im currently thinking about, what is good for the patient with the null allele on that glutathione gene. IV glutathione perhaps ? We certainly could need some more information. Maybe there is more to be had from Great Smokies? Certainly this is a pattern, but there is probably much more involved aswell. The patient Ive reported of are also from a caucasian heritage. Currently reporting feeling quite ok. Always has been in full time work. Tried a number of different therapies. Currently on tailored vitamin and mineral therapy to body chemistry as suggested by the pfeiffer centre.
Guest guest
How much is this test--and, sorry if this question is redundant, but what is the contact # for Genovations? There are problems on my mother's side of the family that make me think the detox system is off, and particularly that my maternal grandmother had Parkinsons--which we know today will improve with IV glutathione. I've tried a glutathione chaser twice now right as my vitamin/mineral IV was ending and found a strong response.
