Guest guest
If I take glutathione either IM or IV, I have a severe reaction with fatigue and flu like sxs the next day and am barely able to get out of bed. Has anyone been able to get an explanation from their doctor as to why this happens and what the pathophsiological response is to cause this reaction? I know that glutathione can mobilize toxins and this may be the answer. I've also been told by one of my doctors that after taking gultathione, it is oxidized and must be reduced back to its non-oxidized state and this may be the answer. I also respond poorly to Immunocal and ImmunePro as I know others do as well. There has to be a physiological reason why people that are glutathione defecient react badly when they take glutathione. Any help appreciated. Thanks
Guest guest
Thanks Rich, This is a very good explanation. I have had a test for chemical toxins done at Doctors Data, INC which showed normal levels of both D- Glucaric acid and Mercapturic acid which is supposed to indicate that the liver is not likely under stress due to exposure to chemicals. However, I had a detoxification profile from GSDLab, that showed an increased Phase 1 caffeine clearance which indicates an overactive Phase 1 Cytochrome P-450 system. Phase 2 showed an increased plasma sulfate and a normal plasma cysteine. GSDL measures four pathways of Phase 2: Glutathione conjugation (normal), Glycine Conjugation (normal), Sulfation (normal), Glucuronidation (normal is 27-56 my result was 59) GSDL's interpretation was that all four pathways seem to be functioning well. However, I had an elevated Phase 1/Glycination ratio. According to GSDL, an elevated ratio between Phase 1 and any of the Phase 2 pathways indicates an imbalanced detoxification in the body. My Reduced Glutathione was low, Glutathione peroxidase was normal, and Superoxide Dismutase was high. My doctor explained this as my phase 1 was overactive and phase 2 was unable to keep up. This would go along with your explanation of viruses, intracellular bacteria, and yeasts being killed off by the increased glutathione causing a switch to the TH1 system, which in turn would lead to more toxins than my Phase 2 could handle. I appreciate your response and any further comments you may have. Guest guest
Just couple of thoughts. I read that Grapefruit inhibits phase1 detox turmeric inhibits phase 1 detox and helps with phase 2 detox. Oranges and tangerines stimulate phase1 detox. Not sure if these are correct but just wanted to share. Nil Re: glutathione deficiency | Thanks Rich, | | This is a very good explanation. Guest guest
Pointerz71, You might consider using some turmeric in your food. According to Murray and Pizzorno, Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, 2nd Revised Edition, 1998, p. 113, turmeric will inhibit Phase 1 and stimulate Phase 2. People who have a higher than normal ratio of the rate of Phase 1 to Phase 2 have been called " pathological detoxifiers, " because some substances are made more toxic by Phase 1, and if Phase 2 doesn't process them as fast as it should, the liver can be subject to elevated concentrations of these more potent toxins. Guest guest
Nil, Murray and Pizzorno agree with you! Guest guest
Rich, Any thoughts on what kind of benefits, and when, one might see in CFS/FM? I have been taking the Nature's Way Turmeric supplement. Thanks. Roxy rvankonynen wrote: > Pointerz71, > > You might consider using some turmeric in your food. ...
Guest guest
Roxy, Turmeric has antioxidant properties as well as lowering the Phase 1 to Phase 2 detox ratio. I've also read that it helps to decrease fibrinogen levels. I don't know how long it would take to see benefits. I suppose it would depend on dose and the individual's situation, but I don't have any information on that. Rich > > > Pointerz71, > > > > You might consider using some turmeric in your food. ...
