? for those taking heparin

I have been wondering about a possible reaction to taking heparin.

Maybe some of you that are taking this medication can comment on your

experience.

My thinking is that the vasoconstriction that is occuring in the body

is in part to conserve core body temperature by reducing the amount

of blood flow to the extremities. The vasoconstriction is the

response to norepinephrine released by the adrenal glands. (this

hormone also signals the body to kick up metabolism.)

Heparin is a blood thinner. My thinking is that by thinning the

blood, it will move more freely to the extremities and will become

more cool as a result. A healthy metabolism would normally produce

sufficient ATP that the heat released would help warm the blood.

If heparin is causing the blood to become more cool (indirectly by

increasing blood flow), is more norepinephrine then being released to

signal more vasoconstriction to conserve body temperature. And with

the release of norepinephrine possibly more pain being experienced.

So my question for those taking heparin, do you monitor your body

temperature and have you noticed a drop in body temp. as a result?

Have you experienced more muscle aches after taking it?

This is a catch 22 sort of situation, certainly blood flow must be

increased to the tissue to deliver oxygen and nutrients for

metabolism. However, until the blocks to metabolism are corrected

increased blood flow to the extremities may cool the body and add to

subsequent symptoms.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

All the best,

Jim

Personally my answer is my body temp did not lower and I didn't have more aches.

Thanks,

Doris
