Guest guest
Donna, You can call Great Smokies and ask if the CNS was always tested for or if it's new in their bug list. I had many CDSA's done and that one has never appeared. -Jan > I just got results of a CDSA back, and to my surprise, under the heading of > " Additional Bacteria " one of the bacteria listed was 3+ Coagulase Negative > Staph. Guest guest
What is a CDSA, where was it done? Guest guest
a, It's a test by Great Smokies Diagnostic Labs called a Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis, which looks at my factors in the gut, including looking for yeasts, good bacteria, bad bacteria, and any other bacteria which shows up. They look at all the parameters that they test, weight them somehow, and come up with a severity of dysbiosis index. Since my gut it a mess, and I believe one of the reasons I have such a hard time getting anywhere, and like to grow bad bugs with little to no good bugs, I get them done frequently as I change probiotics, etc. Go to www.gsdl.com and under GI heading you will see a description of the CDSA. Oh, your doc calls them and I guess faxes them a script and they send you a kit which you send back to them when done. Guest guest
Thanks for this reply. My next question is similar to someone else's, How does Cheney relate this to giving or not giving growth hormone? Also how does one afford growth hormone without meeting the FDA criteria for adult deficiency? I mean you can pay a lot for this stuff when you don't need it or when it is bad for you. So I am wondering what Cheney is doing. I respect him a lot, but so far this doesn't make sense to me. a > a, > It's a test by Great Smokies Diagnostic Labs called a Comprehensive > Digestive Stool Analysis, which looks at my factors in the gut, including > looking for yeasts, good bacteria, bad bacteria, and any other bacteria > which shows up. Guest guest
a, Although I'm not a patient of Dr. Cheney, I have read a number of his papers and transcripts of his speeches. The issue raise is a complex one, perhaps best explain by Cheney himself. You should definitely check out the Cheney transcript at this URL http://members.cox.net/dsleffel/cheney/cheney_pres.html - don > Thanks for this reply. Guest guest
Can't remember the specifics, but recall a conversation recently about someone new in charge at Great Smokies who has more of a microbiology background, and that they were going to be including more organisms in their reporting from now on. I think my doctor may have been discussing this. It's been a big complaint of friends of mine, that they've been overlooking the obvious staph that the stools of PWC are probably full of. I think calling and asking if this is new for them or new for you would be a great idea. Please let us know what you learn. penny > I just got results of a CDSA back, and to my surprise, under the heading of > " Additional Bacteria " one of the bacteria listed was 3+ Coagulase Negative > Staph. Guest guest
Penny and all, I just got off the phone with a clinical representative at Great Smokies, and she said that as far as she knew, they had always checked for CNS, but that the nomenclature had changed, and perhaps this was what I was seeing different in my reports. So I asked her point blank - if I take one of my CDSA's from 5 years ago, and it did not indicate CNS, would I in fact be comfortable in understanding that GSDL did not culture CNS in my stool at that time, but did indeed check for it? I told her it was pretty important to me to know if this is a new thing for me, or a new thing for them. She told me that she had not been there 5 years, so put me on hold and asked a supervisor who had been there for many years. She came back and told me that for the past 15 years they have been looking for it, but it was previously called " Staph Not Aureus " . She asked if I had any CDSA'a that said that, or said aureus of any kind, and I said no, though lots of streps, klebsiella, clostridium......so, I guess it's a new thing for me. Hope this helps. It does give me more to think about, and now I'll bring the CDSA results to my ENT who also agrees after reading the papers I gave him that CNS could well be problematic for some. I have lots of nasal drainage backwards, down my throat, and rarely forward out my nares. So perhaps what's in my nose and maybe jaws (they weren't cultured at the time of my surgeries), is colonizing my gut. Guest guest
a, That's a Comprehensive Diagnostic Stool Analysis. Several labs do it. One is Great Smokies (www.gsdl.com).
