Guest guest
Hi everyone, My fingers are trembling and shaking a lot. This has been one of my major symptoms when I started falling sick 13 years ago. I wasn't able to hold keys or small objects. I will drop them all the time and my fingers always used to tremble. Right now It is not very bad as before. But still I drop my pills, fingers shake a lot while typing etc. I am guessing this is a problem with the nervous system. But, I was wondering if there was some deficiency thats causing this. What would be the best supplementation that would help in this case? Thanks a lot Gayathri. Guest guest
Hi Gayathri, That is FAR too quick to give up on a poll of PWC symptoms! I recall since the beginning of CFIDS symptoms being listed that tremors are listed. I recall because I did not seem to have them. Years later, I did develop a head tremor diagnosed as essential tremor, at the same time as Dystonia. They are both considered " Movement Disorders " (Parkinson's and Tourette's are others) No one I've spoken to made any connection between these and CFIDS/ME...tho I suspected it. I sought others who had the combination for 10 years, with only a few clues...particularly the England 25% (ME) group. Now, I have found a number of people with CFIDS/ME and Dystonia. But, back to fingers tremoring. I now have this and it has been progressing. I drop everything, the lighter the touch, the worse it is. I should also say, the MORE automatic the action, the worse it is. My fingers often bounce around the keys, causing erratic mistakes. I truly have to focus/concentrate on my fingertips for it not to happen. Since I am having a general decline neurologically, I have to assume this is part of it. Perhaps Mayo will confirm this or not. There is of course always the possibility for you or me that some med or supplement thing could connect, but do not assume it. THis is kind of mixing topics, but maybe not. About the path I am on...In a short time I have learned some eye-popping things. After seeking connections between things " everywhere " for an extremely long time, including on this list. I think you know that NMH is common with some PWC/MEs, a disorder of the autonomic nervous system. Also research since the early days has said the Mitochondria is damaged, even a speculation that it is a form of Mitochondria disease. What I have recently learned, after all of these years, is that ~Dystonia~ absolutely can be included in the severe or advanced forms of these disorders!!! OK, my point...it's not to be scary, keep seeking how things may be connected. Meanwhile, just take that symptom alone. The correct person to assess it may be a Neurologist, and in particular, one who is a Movement Disorder Specialist. That would be the person to tell you if you have a specific tremor disorder. There are also lists, and others for people with Essential Tremor, plus links from search engine. You might get some clues there. I forgot if you have said, do you have NMH or any Autonomic things going on? Hope this helps... Katrina Tremor is also genetic. Do any relatives have it? <gayu_pwc@y...> " <gayu_pwc@y...> wrote:> Hi everyone,> > My fingers are trembling and shaking a lot. Guest guest
G.; I forgot to mention that Neurontin is also given for Tremor. I did see it helped with my head. At this point, I am not sure if it's helping with the fingers or not, So many things I am trying to sort out.... Guest guest
<<<I always thought this is a common occurrence with PWC(may be adrenal problems or mineral deficiencies). Now I am doubting that since I didn't get any email about others having this problem.>>> Hi Gayathri, I definitely agree with others that speaking to the neurologist about trembling fingers is a good idea. I got the impression that trembling fingers is a pretty consistent symptom for you. Sometimes - not always, less lately --I have trembling fingers and hands. Also, now that I am thinking about it, I used to experience lots of facial trembling/twitching too. Like many odd symptoms I tend to not give them much direct attention less I become overwhelmed. I note them and toss them in the CFIDS/FM/MCS basket until I am ready to take them out for a close look. ( I am not advocating this way of coping) You have brought this one to my attention. Lately, I only notice the trembling when others do and then I feel a bit embarrassed - or old. I don't have to feel nervous or anxious to have trembling fingers or hands, but it is more likely to occur if I have been pushing myself hard. I still tend to drop lots of things. More when I am pushing. It's another source of embarrassment as others are often picking things up for me. I need someone to follow along and sweep up behind me. <grin> In fact, the reason I have a foot injury ( that I am scared about) is because I dropped something on it. And now that I think about that incident, I am remembering that I had just returned from a trip, and was more fatigued than usual. When I have thought about possible causes, I have often chalked it up to adrenals and/or hypoglycemia. I have been taking adrenal supplements fairly consistently for a couple of years, and as I mentioned in another post I have been pouring on the electrolytes. A more balanced electrolyte intake may have been what has helped decrease the trembling and twitching. Since I am addicted to salt, I wonder if I may be still be taking in too much sodium in relation to potassium and magnesium. A quick search on the internet and I came up with this about the cause of tremors in cows. http://www.agric.gov.ab.ca/agdisaster/droughtcattletetany.html Something to chew on. There could be a subset of PWCs who do experience tremors. I will be interested to hear what your neurologist says. Best wishes, ~jeanne
Guest guest
Gayathri, I have started having internal tremors, where I feel like my whole insides are trembling, but no overt external tremor. I have a very fine, nearly imperceptible tremor of my hands, noticeable mainly when I try to write, or use a camera. I may think that I am perfectly still, and the photo will turn out to be perfectly shaky looking. Don't know if it's the same thing, but my feeling is that is adrenal related somehow. I know my electrolytes are off again as one of the first signs is I get unbearable Charlie horse like cramps that will travel to my feet and curl my toes under. I have to stand up, uncurl my toes and smash them against the floor uncurled until the cramp passes. My past medical history of potassium deficiency is usually the primary suspect when this happens. I notice that Cheneys homade Gookinade has the sea and potassium salts, I wonder if that may address the ratio between sodium to potassium? http://virtualhometown.com/dfwcfids/medical/gookinaid.html For me, I am slowly addressing the mineral salt depletion by increasing the sea veggies and using food sprinklers that are packed with healthy mineral salts. I am really beginning to notice a huge reduction in the incredible ravenous salt cravings that I have had for years yet it is obviously not addressing my eloctrolytes. Guest guest
Kathy, Right now I am using E-lyte concentrate. On Dec. 11th I sent a post with electrolytes in the subject line. I posted some detail about E-lyte, an Allergy Research concentrate, LM911, sea vegetables, and chia seeds. Thanks for the link to the Cookinade. I wonder if magnesium salts couldn't be added. Also, it is interesting that he suggests to consume it over the day. I take the concentrate in the morning, so maybe that is why I crave salt later in the day. Besides the concentrate I consume way more than 1/4 tsp. of salt on food, so I am now thinking that must be throwing off potassium especially on the days on don't eat dulse. Compared to other sea vegetables, dulse has high ratio of potassium to sodium. www.seaveg.com What are the food sprinklers you use? E-lyte makes a kit that you can use to test your electrolytes. (see below) I bought this, and tested low in everything and decided to work on bringing up all my electrolytes before testing again. You can buy the minerals separately too. E-lyte products at retail seems pricey, but it looks like a lot can be learned from their website. http://www.e-lyte.com/ At a quick glance I don't see the " Taste Test Kit " there. I got mine and the info. below from Emerson Ecologics. http://www.emersonecologics.com Another product that I just noticed Emerson sells looks interesting since it doesn't have sodium is ElectoMiX from Alacer. Tricky, tricky these electrolytes. Best, ~jeanne Product Name: Taste Test Kit 1 kit Description: Taste Testing Kit. Kit Includes 8oz bottles of each of the following: Potassium chromate,Manganese, Molybdenum, Copper sulfate, Magnesium chloride, Zinc sulfate Potassium phosphate To test: sip a small portion. Swish the liquid about the mouth, you may discard in the sink or swallow. This product should be used for testing only. Keep away from children. Keep in a cool dry place. Company: E-Lyte Product Code: TASTE Retail Price: $39.90 Wholesale Price: $19.

I am still trying to figure out which E-Lyte product you are using as they are all called E-Lyte!! I assume you are using the " Balanced Electrolyte " product? http://www.e-lyte.com/main/products/electrolyte.htm I am assuming that the price is per bottle and am praying it's really per case or something like that. If yes, do you have any noticeable problems with the sulfur? http://www.emersonecologics.com/ProductInformation.asp?BrowseBy=BALAN I too found Dr Cheney's comment interesting about sipping. I have so many things to take all day that I find myself chugging and gulping things down to get them out of the way. I found an article where he says something about too much water intake can actually flush the body too much and if that is the case, to limit water consumption to 64 oz per day. (I am paraphrasing what I think it said and am trying to locate which link I found this in). When I read what he says on the Gookinade page about a " only fluids similar in concentration to the body's are easily absorbed " ...that really makes sense. I have been complaining for a long time that everything seems to just go through me, I don't feel like I am absorbing liquids. I have just started a trial with the Gookinade and if I can't handle the glucose, then I'm going to make the homemade stuff. Food sprinklers are exactly that...my herbalist grinds up various things and makes them into food sprinklers. She has about 25 different ones for all types of DX and the one I have been using is called Wave Away for mineral salt deficiencies. She has finely ground up organic mineral salts and seaweed and it's delicious. I sprinkle it on everything that I normally would put sea salt. Maybe a coincidence, but after using it for about 2 weeks, my cravings for salt have dramatically reduced. Kathy
Guest guest
I don't have trembling fingers exactly, but if I am holding something lightly between the thumb and fingers of my left hand, and rotate my wrist to the left, my fingers will twitch uncontrollably; enough to drop the item. Also my teeth chatter constantly. These symptoms have lessened as I have improved, but they get worse if I overdo it. Skeesix
