Guest guest
My 7 year old has recently begun mouthing things again. He always seems to have a toy, a piece of clothing, etc. in his mouth. Anyone dealing with this? What helped? Sometimes he sucks on his arm bad enough to give himself a hickey. We're also still dealing with a wetting problem. Not enough to go through to his outer clothes, but his underwear always has stains. Any suggestions? We've been on the Houston enzymes for 2.5 months now, along with Culturelle and Ojibwa Tea. I've recently started using an Epsom Salt Spray on him nightly for the last week. Here is my link on hand licking, which will give you ideas for this. http://home.pacbell.net/cscomp/handlick.htm My #3 son licks his hands and chews on objects when he eats a " bad food " , for him it is regression behavior, back to the oral/baby stage. So that would be my first suspicion if you were describing my own son, to find something new in his life that he may be reacting to, even with enzymes. My link gives other ideas also. > We've been on the Houston enzymes for 2.5 months now, along with > Culturelle and Ojibwa Tea. Guest guest
wow that sounds like my son. any suggestions on what type of zinc product to look for and try. jordan bites but not out of aggression and he mouthes everything. we really need to stop it though because he is biting on the window seal where it is painted and i have found chips of paint in his mouth. this definately can be good. i covered the window seals with fabric and velcroed it to the window. we have alot of health food stores around here with lots of assortments of things. what should i try for zinc? kelly
Guest guest
My daughter licks the chain link fence, shopping carts, and also chews on her shirt. Is zinc just by itself or would a multi-vitamin be ok?? How much for a 40 lb 4 yr old?? Guest guest
Zinc is best taken by itself. If taken in a multi-vitamin it can lose it's effectiveness. I give most supplements to my son in the morning but zinc alone in the evening. If a child needs zinc, she will not taste it but if she does not need it she will reject it. That is another reason why it is a good idea to stick to zinc alone. I empty the capsules from Kirkman's into my son's juice. I'm sure the liquid would be good for this too. As for dosage, I have heard that many DAN doctors recommend 1mg per pound. I gave my son 1/2 capsule (10mg) when he was age 2. This eliminated the biting and licking. When he was 3 1/2 I increased to 20mg which also greatly reduced his diahrea. He is still on 20mg per day and is about 30 lbs. > My daughter licks the chain link fence, shopping carts, and also chews on her > shirt. Is zinc just by itself or would a multi-vitamin be ok?? Guest guest
Thanks Water Oz is an Ionic liquid, looks like water. I do have some Zinc Pilconate stuff in caps, I try that see what happens Mandi > From what I have read, that would be true. I am not familiar with > the product you mentioned though. Guest guest
From what I have read, that would be true. I am not familiar with the product you mentioned though. In order to determine if the taste is zinc, it should be nothing but zinc. I have put the zinc powder directly on my tongue and did not taste anything. I have gotten Minute Maid OJ with zinc before and it had a strange taste. I think it is not the zinc but other items they put in at the same time. > In a message dated 18/07/2003 18:13:17 GMT Daylight Time, > cubicmonica@y... writes: > > > > .
