Re: how long do the capsules take to dissolve?-Update

You know, I recently (2 days ago) did the same thing and I can vouch

for the veggie capsule dissolving in my mouth within 5 minutes...I am

not sure what that has to do with anything though except make me

think about it some more.

The part that I would encourage you to do, and the part I watched

happen over and over and over in the kitchen, which is probably the

key to this, is that the capsule will pop a leak in about 5-10

minutes, hopefully. When the gelatin capsule popped a leak it soon

fell completely apart with the contents flooding out everywhere. When

the veggie capsules popped a leak it would fold back on itself

and " reseal " keeping most of the contents in and the water out. If

any liquid zoomed into the capsule through the hole, that liquid was

now trapped inside as well. Then later another hole would pop open, a

little more stuff leak out with more liquid rushing in, and the

capsule would fold back on itself. I filled empty veggie capsules

with sugar or flour or something besides enzymes and watched this.

Enzymes need to be in solution in the stomach at the same time as the

food to work properly. The reason for allowing the 30 minutes for the

veggie capsules is based on several parents getting " inconsistent "

results with enzymes. Enzymes are one of the few supplements where

their exact mechanism is known, so

- positive results I can understand

- negative results I can understnad

- no results I can understand

- but inconsistent results, I could not understand and this bugged me.

Along with this, we had been at a picnic and my younger son spit up

(gagged up) his dinner about 20-25 minutes after we had eaten, and

there in the slime was the veggie capsule IN TACT. I was a little

alarmed. About a week later the same thing happend - same person, it

is a problem he had until we got the enzyme thing going well - spit

up and I saw the capsule again, intact.

So I started doing a series of tests in my kitchen dissolving several

brands of supplements that came in gelatin capsules, and several

brands that came in veggie capsules, at different pHs and different

temperatures. The exact conditions and data are available on the

enzyme board or you can contact me directly for them. The conclusion

was that the veggie capsules might not be dissolving in time to

completely release the enzymes for maximum results. After the parents

getting inconsistent results changed their timing or started opening

the veggie capsules, all of these parents had consistent, positive

results. That is the most important thing of all of this - people

getting good results for better health. It someone's gut is working

well and the capsules dissolve good enough they don't have to wait -

terrific. But here was the situation and the solution that fixed the

problem.

As for gelatin capsules, some people feel they are not safe because

of the BSE issue or are vegetarian.

Attempting to freeze the veggie capsules did not speed up their

dissolving rate. but I am getting better at giving them 30 minutes

before meals about 1/2 the time.

well i have just put a apeptizyde capsule in a glass of body

temperature water and after 8 minutes it is sorta breaking up if its

worked a bit with the end of a knife which is maybe somewhat happens

in the stomach which is supposedly quite motile.

what i don't like is the way the enzymes sorta clump together and are

helped being held together by the melting cellulose, it may degrade

the enzymes to be held together so closely and being activetd by

being wet. i don't see that they couldn't digest themselves.

so it seems to me that the enzymes really have to be taken out of

the capsules before being taken. i have been taking the cap off the

end and swallowing the capsules like that, i might try that again,

but the clumping issue may still be a concern.

i don't see bse is an issue with gelatin capsules, i assume they are

not made in the uk.
