Hi All,

Since I got CFS, I have never had a fever. Sometimes I have

thought

that maybe if I could develop a fever, it could help my body rid itself

from

this dreaded disease. My body temperature since having CFS has always

been below normal.

What are other peoples histories / experiences as related to

inability to

develop fevers and low body temperature?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

This seems to be common in CFS. It may be related to the TH1/TH2

immune imbalance, i.e. being to Th2 dominate in the immune system.

For me, I had not had a fever in 7 years, though I often felt like I

had one. I would have aches and chills, and be sick as a dog. But,

my temperature would actually drop during these episodes from ~ 97.5

to ~ 96 F. Then, when I felt better, my temperature would go back up

to ~ 97.5.

In 1997, I had some cavitation surgery. 18 years of jaw infections

at wisdom tooth extraction sites since age 17. Not uncommon in CFS.

Once these were somewhat dealt with, I felt much better, ran a fever

of 102 F, and my temperature returned to a stable and normal 98.6 F

consistently.

Just my experience,

Zippy

P.S. You can go to

and see how cavitation surgery is quackery.

I had to comment on this post, mostly

because it sounds so much like me, feeling

like I have a fever but actually having

below normal, AND, 3 oral surgeries

for suspected jaw bone infections (which

did not improve my symptoms afterward)

also, doing 20, 1.5 hour hyperbaric oxygen

dives at $400.00 a pop! (mostly ins. covered)

Just a comment. I've had fevers where my temp rose

and I was so hot you could fry an egg on me. However,

Over the past 30+ years I've had what felt like a

fever, achy, funny taste in mouth and SEVERE FATIGUE

where I would sleep for weeks (doing only the most

important things) and my temp would actually drop as

far down as 96. Never got an answer for this till the

last couple of years. I guess chronic virus's can

cause a drop in temperature. Interesting. Carol

Mike - I too don't get fever, or even normal 98.4 most of the time. That

is one reason why I have the daily hot baths, to get my temperature up to

where it might distress some of the bugs. This is I believe one of the

functions of a fever. Maybe one of our bugs protects itself by limiting

the fever response.

Mike and n,

I have always had this feeling that if I could just stay hot, really hot for

three days all this would be gone.

There used to be an old indian woman who lived in West Texas. The way the would

cure some people would be to make a fire on the top of the ground and keep it

going for several days. Then she

would scrape away the fire, dig out a two foot deep pit and have the sick person

get in. Then she would shovel the hot sand from the fire back over them and

they would stay for three days until

the sand cooled. They would then emerge healed. I've often wished that old

woman were still alive.

Hi Mike

sorry for the delay in responding - i have copied a part of an email

forwarded to me by a friend for you - dont know if its any help.

hayley

" In week-long trips to Cologne, I started the main part of the treatment

which

consists of hyperthermia sessions (provoking a fever under medically

controlled conditions). This is an intervention designed to rebalance the

immune system (the unbalance between the TH1 and the TH2 response of the

CD4

positive lymphocytes) and it is used for numerous immunological problems

as

well as for cancer. For more details of the treatments offered in

Cologne,

see the home page www.koelner-modell.de "
