Guest guest
Hi everyone Since chronic Lyme disease symptoms mimics CFS, FM , have anyone of you been tested for lyme or ventured into that? I went to a Lyme specialist and got some tests done. It was 90% positive. Before going into a long term antibiotic treatment for chronic lyme disease, I want to get some advice on the pros and cons of this treatment. Thanks Gayathri __________________________________________________
Guest guest
There are several (maybe many) of us on long term antibiotics for mycoplasmas. The good thing is that even if you have mycoplasma, it is the same antibiotic that is often used for mycoplasma, so you will get both if you have both. I tested negative for Lyme, but the tests are so flaky who knows. But I take doxycycline anyway so if I have lyme it should be helping. There were some people that found out they had Lyme and left this group to join the Lyme group. Guest guest
Hi Gayathri. There have been a few people who have left this group after getting a diagnosis of Chronic Lyme disease. One in particular visits every once in a while to encourage everyone to get tested for Lyme disease. While it is comforting to have a more " solid " diagnosis, long term antibiotic therapy is not easy, so do some research before you start. But if it is what you need then you must do it. I think that has a Chronic Lyme newsgroup. If not maybe someone else can direct you to it. Good Luck! Tom
Guest guest
Gayathri, An alternative treatment for Lyme Disease is hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It has virtually no side effects and worked well for me (CFS but no Lyme disease) but is also costly and inconvenient. This from " Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy " by Neubauer MD of Ocean Hyperbarics in Florida. The book explains that oral antibiotics is usually a cure if caught early, but the tests are very unreliable. Later stronger drugs or intravenous IV antibiotics may not kill the Lyme spirochete. From the book: " ...evidence of HBOT's effectiveness against Lyme disease in humans was provided by a pilot study conducted by Dr. Fife and Dr. Freeman at Texas A & M University. In this study, 40 patients were treated with HBOT at a pressure of 2.36 atmospheres absolute once or twice a day, five days a week, for 1-4 weeks. Some of the patients continued antibiotic therapy. Others did not... In all but 2 cases any improvements reported continued after the patients left the study even if they did not continue antibiotic treatment. Improvements included eliminate of mental confusion and depression, relief of pain, and increased energy. In a number of cases, the patients still suffered minor Lyme symptoms after taking HBOT, but usually with nothing near the same severity " .
