I don't want to mis-attribute but I'm very sure I remember that when we

were hot on the trail of the less expensive but excellent source of

hydroxocobalamin and I was in close contact with Carol S that she said

that Cheney said that while intramuscular injection of it was better

absorbed that since unlike mag sulfate it also was fairly well absorbed

when given subcu (and MUCH less painful) that he recommended going the

subcu route for Bl2.

I do that and though at first was scared to inject into the belly a nurse

did it for me and I saw it was not painful at all and so easy.

On the other hand mag sulfate (and I know from rotten experience) MUST

not be injected subcu and must be IM (or IV--which of course is not

realistic when self injected).

Long ago I was able to inject IM mag into the thighs, which of course is

easier positionally. But at present I find that even using lidocaine it

seems to leave me in considerable and longlasting pain in the leg, no

matter where on the thigh I inject.

Thus I'm injecting in the hip or upper outer quadrant of the buttock. I

just noticed that if I push the needle down into the injection site (the

tendency I had probably due to an instinctual desire to put less pressure

on to ease the discomfort) it, for reasons I don't understand, goes in

(the contents in the syringe) much more easily and less painfully.

My problem as I guess is true of everyone is that I simply hate the whole

process of filling up the syringe, being careful re issues affecting

sterility, positioning myself, the whole routine, meaning some nights

when I'm really gorked out I don't do it, and probably should prepare the

whole thing earlier when I have more energy.

In sum, I'd rather take a pill.

So I recommend doing Bl2 subcu and if you take mag of course doing IM.

I think the thighs are alittle more sensitive than injecting in

the ...hmm..how to explain....the hip/buttocks area, in the muscular

part right above the indent for the femur? Also I remember reading

recently (the past month) someone who goes to Cheney saying he

preferred the hip area I just described instead of the thighs bc of

the nerves in the thighs. I think it was Carol S, but not sure.

Sorry I can't be more specific. I have only had one batch of B12

that really really hurt like you describe and the pharmacy just

didn't know why. A mystery. This illness is full of them, eh?
