The hidden impact of chemical toxins

Jannarone wrote on list in response to my recent set of questions

about adrenals, especially but not exclusively as related to the

troubling symptom I call " inner hyperness, " which a number of people on

the list also experience.

For a long time and for a variety of reasons I've tended to focus on

messed up metabolism secondary to initial inappropriate handling of some

bug (viral/bacterial/etc) as being the main/central model in my version

of this disease, with my symptoms being triggered mostly from activity

intolerance and from ingested things (maybe due to gut permeability

issues and possibly gut pathogens)--many of which affecting the CNS.

I of course have noticed and also paid attention to environmental toxins,

but with the co-observation of my longest term doc we downplayed their

role.

I'm now beginning to think that while some things in the environment

(I'll call them toxins though that's got its problems) cause in me

immediate symptoms, which makes it easy to identify them and try to avoid

them, that there are ones that are noxious to me where the connection is

not at all as obvious.

While they're harder to prove as triggers I think the best way to deal

with them (which I've done to some extent--as with particle board)is to

avoid them wherever possible.

mentioned talking on the phone with regard to position of body and

dysautonia, which I'm fairly sure is a big factor with me; but that also

sparked a thought re environmental toxins I remember hearing about long

ago: the materials things like phones are made of as outgassing stuff we

can't easily handle, and I realized that I just had to buy a new phone

and a new answering machine.

Pretty. Helpful re physical pain the way the phone works. But I just

started to wonder about the materials they're both made of as possibly

having introduced a new source of noxious and harmful-to-me toxins.

The conundrum that protecting against chemical sensitivity sources is,

for me, at least that safe alternatives often challenge other problems I

have. One example is that it's harder to get to places to find and thus

buy used equipment and also riskier in some respects, re reliability.

This new phone has features that make it easier on my shoulders when in

bed, where I do most of my phoning. Etc.

So you make for less noxious triggers for one part of this complex

illness only to risk increased difficulty/triggers for another dimension.

I know that some people who are very clearly and significantly downed

with MCS would probably wrap their new phone as much as possible in that

metal barrier wrap or even barrier cloth. Doing so many extra things

that further act as symbols of being sick is a problem for me. I have my

limits. They change; but I simply find that if I do everything I suffer

psychologically and that ain't good either.

I do need to drink more water for various reasons. I hate drinking water

and always have but that's something I have to be more diligent about,

and something that won't make me feel like I'm invaliding myself.
