Guest guest
Hi C I had this very question, wondering what was worse, chemicals or mold from steam cleaning. I went to a lot of sources but couldn't get a really good answer. Maybe the MCS groups have a better answer. I decided that I didn't want the chemicals and went steam. But steam cleaners vary tremendously in how much power they have to suck water out of your carpet. I had some people tell me it would take 24 hours to dry. The guy who did mine said 3-4 hours. In fact, we were walking on it in 2. So if you go steam, ask about the suction power, ask how long it will take to dry. Doris cleaning carpets I need to have the carpets in my house cleaned. What process would people recommend? Thank you, C.
Guest guest
Dear Carol, You asked about carpet cleaning. Maybe you should look into the host system. You sprinkle stuff that looks like damp brown sand on the carpet, then scrub it into the carpet with a rented machine, then let it sit for an hour, then vacuum it up with the same rented machine. Consumer Reports claimed that it did a better job of cleaning the carpets than the commercial companies could do. We tried it a few years ago, when we had a local outlet, and the sand seemed benign to me. I could be wrong, but when we've had carpets cleaned commercially, it has bothered me somewhat. (Note: I am healthy, but am somewhat chemically sensitive.) Sue B. upstate New York
