Guest guest
> Could this work on all herpes virues.? > Hi Carol, This treatment sounds like good news to me. Given that it is an immune modulator, I think that increases the odds that it will be helpful against the herpes family of viruses. It might be very good news for us. Too bad we can't get our hands on it for three years. Luke Resiquimod is one of a new family of immune response modifier (IRM) molecules developed by 3M Pharmaceuticals, of which Aldara (imiquimod) is the first compound to have been marketed globally. IRMs act in a novel way to stimulate the human body's immune system to fight viral infections W. Benson, executive vice president, 3M Health Care Markets, said, " Today's announcement is yet another exciting development for this new-to-the-world class of compounds with the potential to change the practice of medicine. We are tremendously pleased to align with Lilly on the development and commercialization of this promising new herpes treatment. " Resiquimod is expected to represent a major advance over currently marketed therapies and address many unmet medical needs in the herpes market, particularly genital herpes. Ongoing clinical trials suggest that resiquimod significantly increases the time between genital herpes outbreaks and may produce a long-lasting suppressive effect without the need for daily therapy. Through its novel approach, some clinical investigators believe resiquimod may potentially reduce viral transmission and, with multiple courses of therapy, place the disease into clinical remission. It is anticipated that a new drug application will be submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2004
