Guest guest
I had them too. Painful... But they go away on their own. I took Valtrex for them. My MD said they are probably herpes, but they could also be something called Bechette's (?). Know nothing about that one.
Guest guest
> Has anyone ever had very painful little cancre sores underneath the tongue, > at the base, in the form of two little swollen " eggs " ? If they are white/clearish and haven't been there for more than two weeks, they could be ulcers which normally will heal. Sometimes throwing on too much mouth detergent type items doesn't help. A dentist sometimes is better versed than a doctor at telling you what those might be if they persist. Some pain killing canker drops sometimes can get you through the worst days better. Guest guest
My doc told me that after the first day or two that hydrogen pyroxide acts as an irritant to an ulcer. He prescribed a dental paste that has worked great for me -- something called TRIAMCINOLONE 0.1% that you use twice a day. It's good stuff. > Has anyone ever had very painful little cancre sores underneath the tongue, > at the base, in the form of two little swollen " eggs " ? I copied down the two antivirals you mentioned. Do yout think oral acyclovir work, too? I have tried it before, when I was getting bad genital herpes attacks, and it made me feel nauseous. My right lymph at my throat is a little swollen, and I am running a low fever. I think the two red " eggs " could be the " sublingual salivary glands " themselves. I'm going to get to a dentist today if I have to wait for hours as a walk-in. Yes, it's hard to eat, hard to talk--and it/they hurt like the dickens. I'm swishing with Peridex, but it's an antibacterial as far as I can tell Lynea
Guest guest
i think you can try the oral acyclovir ..i bekeive it is the first generation of anti-virals for herpes. the problem with these antivirals is that we develop a tolerance for them and they no longer work fr us after awhile. Famvir or valtrex is then used ...that is how my md dealt with my repeated outbreaks.. 1-acyclovir..2...famvir and at present valtrex which i find to be the best one however it is hard on the stomach for some. hope this helps. Guest guest
Lynea, I recently had an attack of herpes in my throat and it was the most painful thing I ever had I ever had (second only to a twisted cyst on my ovary). The only thing that helped for a few hours at a time was gargling with a novocaine containing mouthwash and also taking a strong painkiller which included codeine. The pain was so bad it merely blunted it but still it was worth it! Good luck Nelly

Guest guest
I have had big, bad sores near the base of my tongue so painful I didn't want to swallow my own saliva. All my doctor gave me at the time was an oral anaesthetic to swish around in my mouth. Terrible chemical taste, but I used it several times because it did help temporarily to numb the pain. Sorry, I don't have the bottle here with me at present (it's back in Edmonton but I'm living temporarily in Calgary) or I'd tell you what it was called. Sure wished we could have identified the problem properly and treated it in a more fundamental way, not simply with symptom masking. Guest guest
I want to second the suggestion about L-lysine, if these sores are in fact due to herpes simplex types 1 or 2. Taking some lysine when you are eating other foods, and avoiding major sources of arginine such as chocolate and nuts, should put the herpes simplex viruses back into latency and give you some relief. There's a discussion of this plus some references in the new PDR of Nutritional Supplement, edited by Sheldon Hendler and Rorvik. Guest guest
I don't have mouth sores myself but my husband has suffered with them for years. They get really bad when he is under stress. I began taking undenatured whey for my fibromyalgia and I wanted company so I started my husband and sons on it as well. My husband is a real sceptic, doesn't believe in any of the " cures " as he calls them but since he started the whey, his mouth sores have all but disappeared. They still appear but never develop into the five or six huge sores he used to get where he couldn't eat from the pain. He still hasn't quite admitted that it was the whey but he hasn't changed anything else about his routine and normally in two months he would have had a least two major episodes lasting about week. It would certainly be worth a try to see if it helps. He is taking immunepro. Eileen B.
