Hud,

Yes! I measure low for DHEA, so I took DHEA supplement. I became totally

and uncomfortably wired, angry, irritable, jittery, anxious, tight. Out of

control -- awful. I only lasted 2 days and had to stop.

I've never tried hydrocortisone and since it doesn't appear on my chart

showing metabolic pathways I don't know where it fits into the scheme.

I haven't followed up my inability to take DHEA but it may have something

to do with the fact that my testosterone is high and yet DHEA is a

precursor to testosterone.

DHEA---->testosterone, DHEA is low yet testosterone is high. Obviously

there are other pathways and/or my main pathway is not working. IF anyone

can shed any light I'd be interested.

I understand that there is a supplement called 7-KETO that is

supposed to get around the problem with testosterone increase with

DHEA.

I just had my levels tested and I, too, am low. Haven't taken DHEA

in over 5 years but am pretty desperate at this point so may try it

again as at lest now I know what my level is.

Hi n,

Did you have ASI test and do you know the cortisol levels you have?

It could be that your adrenals are over active and they depleted your stored

DHEA.May be what you need is to slow down your adrenals rather than taking

DHEA.As long as your Adrenals are over active they will use up all the DHEA

and you will still have low DHEA levels. I am not a doctor,I am just brain

storming.

Why don't you find a specialized

doctor on the subject and let him to evaluate the results and prescribe you

supplements.

Take care..

Marilyn,

You may ask to your naturopath if you can use Pregnenolone. It is precursor

of DHEA and sometimes prefered to DHEA or 7 Keto for women.

Take care..

hi n and all -

my doc first started me on 5 mg. Dehydrone-5 from Thorne (available at

NEEDS) along with time released pregnenolone which should also help raise

your hormone levels. He recently switched me to 25 mg. 7-Keto DHEA to avoid

unwanted acne and hair growth from increased androgen levels. I'm pretty

sensitive to stuff like this but have never experienced the symptoms you're

having. Perhaps your doses have been too high or another kind would work

better for you.

Thanks MJH, NIl and Judith for the interesting replies.

I have never even heard of 7-Keto - can someone either enlighten me or

point me to a source of info? Is it another form of DHEA or a whole now

hormone?

re the LEF site on DHEA - this is exactly what I was looking at yesterday

that reminded me of my intolerance to DHEA. I just can't handle it at the

moment in any form. But I figure I should do some more work on this so

will start now.

Cheers,

n

This is a repeat of an earlier question to which I didn't get a response...
