Guest guest
Marilyn When I learned via Co-Cure list about Dr. Lerner and his work, I phoned and sent emails asking to participate in his studies, etc. as I live less than 100 miles from his location. He has never responded. However, since I knew I had herpes simplex with almost constant cold sores and increasingly worse pre-outbreak symptoms, I made myself a tincture of lemon balm ( officinalis) and began taking about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon daily. As long as I take it regularly, no more outbreaks. If I get sloppy and don't take it for about 5 days, I'll get an outbreak but with far less debilitating pre-outbreak symptoms. I had previously been influencing herpes simplex with about 1,000 mg l-Lysine daily. I would really like to find someone who has worked with officinalis more extensively because I would like to keep upping the dose to see if there is a point that I am really better (both CFS/FMS with horrible pain). It's spring again and I need to calculate how much tincture to make this year to get me through another. Lemon balm is very easy to grow and is a hardy perennial, meaning that once you plant it and it gets established, you've got it year after year. I cannot afford to buy the quantity of tincture I am taking and the essential oil of this marvelous herb is stratospherically priced because the plant produces so little of it and it vaporizes easily. Another Marilyn now well enough and thinking clearly enough to write this after 11 years In a message dated 5/7/01 3:10:09 AM Eastern Daylight Time, writes: << 'm sure you know about Dr. Lerner's work on HHV6, also. It was because of his work that I marched into my doc's office a couple-three years ago and demanded IV ganciclovir. He ended up giving me low doses of the oral ganciclovir, Cytovene. My HSV, CMV, Epstein-Barr, and HHV6 had proven to be impervious to Zovirax, Famvir, and Valtrex. After futzing around with all this time, I finally found the right dose for me, 5,000mg daily. I have more energy, my immune dysfunction is gone, and my NK cells are now normal. And, except for the Epstein-Barr, the rest have stopped reactivating. (I'm going to do a run of Valtrex to see if it'll respond to it.) No one likes the " perpetuating factors " aspect of this disease, but if one has constantly reactivating Herpes viruses, the immune system exhausts itself over time fighting a battle it can't win. By controlling the reactivated Herpes viruses, we're far better off. And if Lyme is also problem, then long-term antibiotics may provide one with more ammo. I don't know which of the two (daily Cytovene or daily Biaxin) cleared my brain, but I'm just grateful something did! >>It is the same thing with Neurontin. My Neurologist Dr. , a class mate of Joe's by the way, says he cannot say why Neurontin helps some folks with CFS. Neurontin hits a broad range of neurotransmitter and therefore is helpful for epilepsy, manic depressive disorder, and pain control.<< When it works, Neurontin can be a miracle drug for us. Particularly in the way it controls nerve pain. (Subside the nerve pain, fewer muscle spasms may result.) It is also wonderful for people with MCS because it works on the glutamate toxicity common in them. I took it for two years, at 3600mg daily, and I got out of bed and became very active, both online and off-line. It's worth a try by anyone with this disease. If nothing else, it may improve the quality of one's life.
