Guest guest
ICQ is an Instant Messenger. It is the most popular IM (Instant Messenger) on the Internet, I believe (AOL IM is the most popular overall, but that's because it's the IM included in the America Online service). has a popular IM as well, available at: http://messenger. Microsoft also has MSN IM: http://messenger.msn.com I have tried all four, and am staying with AOL IM because it's the easiest to configure behind a firewall ( was easier, but my company blocked it). You can get AOL IM at: http://www.aol.com/aim/home.html You can get ICQ at: http://www.icq.com/download The big downfall of Instant Messaging is this: none of these Instant Messengers can talk to each other yet. ICQ users can only talk to ICQ users, AOL to AOL, to , etc. Hope this explains it! Jim Bloemker :-) > > I have recently installed ICQ. Guest guest
How is an instant messenger different that just regular email, especially if you have your computer set to " bing " every time an email comes in. thanks. .
Guest guest
An Instant Messenger delivers a message instantly. If you have ever been in a chat room, it is almost exactly like that. If you do it by email, you must wait for the other person to read your email, press the reply button, type in their message, then press the send key. Then you must open each email you receive, which will contain the whole thread of the conversation. If you do it by IM, you type in your message, press SEND, the person gets the message almost instantly (email can take a while), the person types a reply and presses SEND. It's great for conversational messaging! Also, you can have more than two in a conversation. In this case, everybody can read all messages in the conversation by scrolling the conversation window. Several companies use this technology for live technical support. IM is more for live conversation, email is for messaging where you don't need an instant reply. Jim :-) Hope that > How is an instant messenger different that just regular email, > especially if you have your computer set to " bing " every time an > email comes in. thanks. > .
