Guest guest
Phil - I take .5 mg in the morning and then .5mg before bed. My doc wanted me to take 1.0 mg at bedtime but it's too much for me - makes me really groggy in the morning. This has really helped my sleep, by the way. Best, Jennie <philcome@...> > 23. Guest guest
Phil, you asked " For those of you taking Klonopin what does are you on? I take 1 mg and it really helps my sleep; any lower dose is ineffective. I just don't want to overdo it. " I too think Klonopin is one of the best things I take. Couldn't do without it. For several years now I've taken 1.5 mg at night, 0.25 mg when I wake up, and another 0.25 mg in the afternoon if I remember, which isn't often!! A large man in our group takes 2 to 3 mgs daily. Others take much less than I do. It really varies from person to person. I think Cheney's rule of thumb is to take as much as you can without feeling like a zombie in the morning. Actually, I think he says find the dose that makes you more alert in the morning, take the same in the afternoon if you like, then take three to four times that amount at bedtime. I had an extended conversation with him about Klonopin, and I've posted it on this list. I also wrote it up for our support group, and it's in the Cheney section on our website www.virtualhometown.com/dfwcfids. It's called " Cheney on Klonopin: Protecting the Brain " . He said the only down side to taking too much (we're talking a little too much - not an overdose) is feeling like a zombie. And he said that's not dangerous - just inconvenient. The only documented long-term effect of Klonopin is a decreased incidence of Alzheimer's!! Not a bad side effect at all. It's so neural protective, that I've heard him almost wish that someone would put themselves into the " zombie " state with a higher dose, so that when they've come through all three stages, they'd " have more of their brain left " . But not an option for most of us, and not something Cheney really wants to try, I suspect. :-) Carol
