Guest guest
It is an interesting question as to whether a " normal " person will get flushing. I had always thought yes, because I had read about it. But Ken said you get flushing more when you have hypercoagulation, and as that is reduced you get less. Indeed, I found that to be the case. The more I have been on heparin the less flushing I get. Now I still sometimes get red, but never completely itchy and on fire like I used to be. I don't know the answer to when. One theory would be before the antibiotic, because the capilaries would be open to move the antibiotic in deeper. Another would be after to help flush out the dead bacteria. I would think Niacin would make you warmer, not colder, so I'm not sure about that. If I am figuring this out right, and the aim is to open up the capillaries and so get the bugs out, should the Niacin be taken with the antibiotics to get the highest concentration of antibiotics in to the tissues? Its hard to know whether this stuff helps. I have tried 200mg and am " flushing " and burning nicely......but then even non-CFS people would do that wouldn't they? I am also VERY chilled, shivering away and my hands are freezing.......now does THAT sound as if this stuff is doing something? If so should I take the Niacin twice a day when i take the Doxy? Guest guest
I think what happens -- for me anyway -- is that because the capillaries get dilated and more blood ends up near the surface of the skin, then you lose heat far more quickly than normal. So although you're feeling hot due to the flushing, you also tend to get cold shortly afterwards because you're losing so much heat through the skin. Guest guest
Our experience is that Niacin flushes are effective indicators (for us) if antibiotics are working or not. We tend to use niacin regularly if we are definitely herxing: it usually clear the mind and cause us to feel better after the flush. If we are not herxing, than we would drop to once a week for niacin to see if there is any significant amount of flushing after a week on an antibiotic (giving toxins enough time to build up to give a flush). If there was no flush and no herxing... than we would be rotated on to the next antibiotic and resume herxing again. Lately Laurie has been using niacin daily because the lovenox (heparin) is resulting in more and more herxing each day for her. For myself, the herxing appears like a sinus infection (which is blocking the nose alot... so Laurie and I have to sleep apart currently :-( : my resulting snoring and her herxing/sensistivity are incompatible for a while. I got niacin flushes before CFIDS(i.e. when I was normal)... and stopped taking it because I did not understand what it was. To me a regular flush (in a normal person) means a chronic infection -- which has not become severe enough to present as CFIDS etc.... -- just my opinion. Best time: If you are herxing badly: 1-2 hrs after whatever causes the herxing... (to clear the toxins from bacteria being killed), if not herxing -- take it with the substance (antibiotics or ???) to allow deeper penetration of the antibiotic into the tissue. > Is there a " best " time to take Niacin (flushing kind). Guest guest
Hi , Ken and I use Nature's Way Nicin in 100 mg capsules. The Niacinamide is No-Flush niacin, so you won't flush from it. Our MD told us not to take no-flush niacin because she said it's hard on your liver. I don't know the particulars past that. Laurie
