Hi Becky and welcome,

I just sent the Mixing Suggestions document to your personal email.

These are things that parents have used. Hopefully you can find

something it there that will work. I you ever come up with something

different, let me know and I will include it.

Your guy is young but enzymes are safe for even infants. Peptizyde

has more of a smell than the Zyme. The smell is characteristic of the

sulfite-free papain in the product. However, it doesn't have much

taste, so if you get it mixed well, it should be fine. I usually have

my kids swallow the capsules but they are older. I don't know about a

2 year old (the choking thing) although others have taught very young

children successfully.

The important thing to remember is that for the enzymes to work, they

need to be in solution in the gut at the same time the food is. We

have found that the veggie capsules need about 20-30 minutes to

ensure they are dissolved. So if you give the capsule, make sure to

give it 30 minutes before eating. If you open the cap and mix the

enzymes, no problem, he can eat right away. It is just because the

veggie cap are very well sealed ;). I mix enzymes for myself in a

cold drink and sip on it through out the day. Since your son is so

young, giving it in a drink might work best.

My two boys and I are very sensitive to the casein/dairy and

Peptizyde has worked very well on this. We just had to find out by

trial and error. I think that is what you will ultimately have to do

with your own child no matter what tests you have run. Just ask

questions on anything you have concerns about.

Best wishes,

.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE GFCFDIET WEBSITE, GO CHECK IT OUT. IT'S A

GOLDMINE FOR INFORMATION AND LOTS OF PARENTS, ANOTHER LISTGROUP, RECIPES,

ETC. FOR PEOPLE TRYING TO GO GFCF. OUR HISTORY WAS TO GO THIS ROUTE FULLY,

THEN WE REALIZED THE BENEFITS, AND THEN AFTER ABOUT 8 MONTHS HEARD ABOUT

THESE ENZYMES, AND DID BOTH IN TANDEM FOR AWHILE. WITH THE ASSURANCE THAT

ALL WAS CALM ON THE DIET, HE WAS SHOWING INCREDIBLE IMPROVEMENT ON THE

COMMUNICATION FRONT, AND HIS STOOLS WERE SHOWING SOME IMPROVEMENT, WE

DECIDED TO TRY INFRACTIONS. I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU REACH A STABLE POINT WITH

HIS DIET (WHETHER ON OR OFF, GFCF OR JUST CF), BUT HAVE THAT A CERTAIN

PLATEAU BEFORE ADDING THE ENZYMES. ELSE YOU WON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT

CHANGED. JUST MY TWO CENTS WORTH.

I also ordered Super Nu Thera vitamin

> supplement. Do any of you use them?

Hi Becky:

There's a website called the GFCFdiet.com that can tell you all you need

to know about being both gluten and casein free. Both of my sons

continue to be on the diet, but I also use the enzymes (amoung other

supplements) and have seen great improvements. I find that I buy

capsules of everything, since my kids won't swallow pills, and then I

open them and add some pear sauce to it and it goes down fine. I've also

found that if I can get all their supplements into them at the same time

(or as close as possible), it makes life easier. I try to mix everthing

up so that it all fits into a regular teaspoon (not a measuring spoon)

and they don't seem to mind taking it. The only way to know for sure

what foods your son is most sensitive to is by careful watching. A lot

of parents recommend keeping a food diary, which I did for a time, to

keep track of everything they eat and what supplements you've given and

eventually a pattern will emerge and it will be evident what he's most

sensitive to. There are also tests that can be run that indicate food

allergies and intollerances. The GFCFdiet.com site can also provide

sources for testing as well.

Good luck and blessings.

Please check out www.GFCFDiet.com, you will find a wealth of info. there about

the gfcf diet and there is another discussion board there for those trying to or

who are implementing this diet. We are using the enzymes as well as sticking

with the diet and have had wonderful results!

[ ] New here & so ignorant of everything!

We just found out our little fella (turned 2 today!) is autistic.

Actually found out about 3 weeks ago. He has been cf for 2 weeks and

he does seem better, but it is hard to say if it is all the extra

attention he has been receiving or the cf diet. Would really like to

go gf, but don't know where/how to start! I ordered the

peptizide/and zyme prime (I know I spelled these wrong!) today and

hope to start them soon. I also ordered Super Nu Thera vitamin

supplement. Do any of you use them? How will I ever get my little

fella to take the various supplements? How did YOU get started on

the gf diet? How can you tell what foods are worse for your child

than others? He is so little now, and I am so new to all this, I

just don't know where to start. Happy I found this site. I really

hope everyone can help me out and I'll try to help you too.

Becky:

We went off gluten gradually and still had a slight regression which is typical.

Going cold turkey off casein and gluten has caused month-long regressions so you

want to wean slowly. Also, there are many substitutes for favorite foods in the

health food stores, by mail order and even in some of the larger grocery stores.

We bake muffins and other stuff from rice flours. Good luck with the diet.

Another suggestion:

Since you do want to go GF as well as CF, this is the way I would do

it if I did it all over. I would start slowly on enzymes because

there are lots of benefits to the gut and you know the peptides will

be getting broken down while you are figuring out the diet, new foods

and food substitutes. With that, start reducing dairy finding

replacements as you go (which you have done). Then reduce gluten

because it is much harder and this will be less frustrating. You can

have the benefits of being GFCF with enzymes, but giving yourself and

your child some time to adapt and not go broke trying to find new

menus all at once. I was going nuts (so were the kids) trying to get

it all right in a hurry so they wouldn't be getting the " bad "

peptides.

Then as you get much better at GFCF, reduce the enzymes as you go

until you have low key maintenance, and as " insurance " for unknowns

and contamination. Helping people to do the diet 100% successfully is

one of the biggest advantages, in my opinion. This is why I don't see

the diet and enzymes as competing, but rather complimentary

treatments. Enzymes will also help any bowel problems, yeast

problems, and increase nutrient absorption so you can be helping the

body on these issues until you get around to truly focusing on them

in detail.

Hi Becky,

The best way is to keep a diary of all food and drinks

taken in and at what times and record what behaviors

are like. This has really worked well for me. For

example I picked up that my daughter cannot tolerate

any of the gluten free flours. Try supplements etc one

at a time for a minimum period of two weeks so that

you can see what is effective and what isn't. Hope

this helps.
