For anyone not familiar with the DMSA/glycine challenge test, it is

another type of test for heavy metals. DMSA doesn't work like most

chelating agents by simply removing metals from the blood. It

actually strips them from your bodies tissue one layer at a time,

kind of like removing the layers from an onion. The original test

will only show whats in the blood and what has been removed from

tissue caused by the DMSA challenge test. As you chelate with DMSA,

you may actually extract many other kinds of metals from deeper

layers of tissue that did not show up in the tests results. A second

DMSA challenge test after chelating will reveal your current state

and if there are any more metals showing up. As for my situation, I

tested high for mercury which is probably from my teeth. After the

chelating process, I didn't show any mercury. Removing the mercury

from my teeth is not feasible since most have caps on them and many

have some mercury under the caps. At $550 per tooth, I'm not about to

replace 24 caps. An occasional bout with DMSA is a much more cost

effective approach for me. I also did not experience any effects from

mercury before or after chelating. My experence with DMSA was only

pleasurable, no discomfort at all. At times I felt really GREAT while

taking DMSA. Information I read indicated that it is very effective

in crossing the blood/brain barrier. Dr Lieberman put me on this the

first time and Dr Scheer the second cycle. Since DMSA

uncovers/removes metals from deep within tissue, it probably explains

why some people have a difficult time with it. If you are loaded with

toxic metals, removing them is probably going to be uncomfortable.

One other consideration, DMSA will remove Aluminum where EDTA will

not. Aluminum is what I was after, mercury was a by product for me.

Hi Cheryl, Donna is correct in that my system is nowhere near as

sensitive as many others. Donna is wrong when she refers to me as a

HER, sorry Donna. I've been through months of EDTA chelation, five

weeks of Sauna therapy (daily) and two rounds of DMSA. I can tell you

that DMSA was by far the easiest and also a fraction of the cost of

the other two options. Maybe mercury is causing physical problems for

some of us and maybe it isn't for the rest. Unfortunately, we all are

looking for some reason for this DD and listen to everything

that " could " be the answer. When I was going to Dr 's

clinic in Seattle, they said I should remove all of my fillings just

in case. I told them about my caps and that I didn't have $20,000 for

that purpose. The doc looked me straight in the eyes and said to have

all of my teeth pulled then. He never even saw a mercury test result

for me, just his attitude towards mercury. I think that is going over

board and just a bit drastic. I've been following MD advice for ten

years and spent an absolute fortune of my own money, not to mention

insurance money with no or very little results. Sometimes you just

have to say " no way " . I really don't think DMSA is going to do any

harm to you, especially in smaller than normal doses. If anything,

you may have some discomfort from the detoxing, which can be

expected. However at the small levels you are talking about, it

should be very minimal or not at all. Keep in mind that if mercury is

a problem, you should use a product that will remove it from your

entire body and not just your gut or blood. I'm currently taking anti-

bodies for Mycoplasma and have never been tested for it. Some people

think that is unwise, I trust my Dr. All of us have and are using all

sorts of over the counter products that in many cases make us ill and

we keep taking them hoping it is a good sign. Sometimes it is a good

sign and sometimes we are not helping ourselves. We don't know for

sure what is taking place, but we keep plunging ahead hoping for the

best. In my five weeks of sauna therapy, I didn't have any problems

at all. However most of the others with me suffered in different ways

and some experienced serious problems especially migraines. One

elderly lady had to drop out after two weeks; her system just

couldn't handle the side effects. Everyone else stayed for the full

four weeks. I stayed an extra week because the detox for me really

never started until the fourth week. I'd like to know how you

received your DMSA to begin with. Is it an over the counter item in

your country? As far as I know, it is a prescription item here in the

USA. Many on this site will chastise me for suggesting you try

sometime like DMSA without being under a doctor's supervision. I

think you have the right approach and would give it a try.

Best of luck,
