Guest guest
Hi Dave, What protocol would you suggest for this pharmacological action of GA, bearing in mind that some may not wish to increase cortisol bioactivity due to concerns over possible side effects from chronic regular usage. Would it work if taking the LE with food (which would reduce the cortisol enhancing effects as the GA would not be being effectively hydrolysed into its active form to inhibit 18 beta HSD, the enzyme that breaks down cortisol). Essentially, is it possible to maximise the thrombin inhibition whilst minimising inhibition of 18 beta HSD? What dose and frequency would you suggest, how about 100mg GA (eg, 1g Baschetti extract) per day with breakfast, or well before breakfast if you intend to boost cortisol aswell? -------------- Dave wrote: If licorice is inhibiting thrombin and thrombin is contributing to hyper-coagulation, then hyper-coagulation might be related to CFS. __________________________________________________

I'm not so sure that chronic use of licorice will increase cortisol bioactivity. Dr. Posnecker gets good results by keeping his patients on Baschetti every day for months. Baschetti inhibits 11 beta hydroxysteriod dehydrogenase, the enzyme that deactivates cortisol. But 11 beta hydroxysteriod dehydrogenase also has a feedback mechanism. The more you inhibit this enzyme, the more enzyme the body makes. You are not increasing cortisol bioactivity by any great amount after 3-4 weeks on licorice extract simply because your body is cranking up 11 berta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase to the point that the GA is no longer boosting cortisol much. This is why I always recommended going off baschetti for a few days every week, or taking it on an every other day schedule. Posnecker never did this and his protocol got much better results over the long run than mine, which is why I started looking around for other ways PWCs might be benefiting from baschetti. > Would it work if taking the LE with > food (which would reduce the cortisol enhancing > effects as the GA would not be being effectively > hydrolysed into its active form to inhibit 18 beta > HSD, the enzyme that breaks down cortisol). Don't think so. Cutting down on amount of GA converted to 18-beta GA by adding food will likely produce less thrombin inhibition. 18-beta GA is the ingredient that is active against thrombin. > Essentially, is it possible to maximise the thrombin > inhibition whilst minimising inhibition of 18 beta > HSD?
