that's why- you need the one with glucose in it.

that must be it, better that it's only glucose. I am just going by what O.

s, R.N. at sunraysupply said. Apparently there was some kind of study

with this flavor?

What differnce does the GLUCOSE make ?

Aren't we takeing it to expand blood volume ?

So what difference does it make what type of Suger - Fructose vs. Glocose,

that is int it ?

,

I believe this is the story:

To move water in rapidly from the gut, you must first move the salts in, and

then the water will diffuse in by osmosis. A big part of the salts is sodium

ions. They are actively transported by a protein transporter that must also

carry glucose along with the sodium, or it won't work. Fructose will not

substitute for glucose on this protein.

This is the basis for the World Health Organization's hydration solution for

treating people with cholera. Cholera causes severe diarrhea, which causes loss

of salts as well as dehydration. By giving cholera victims a solution that

contains both the salts that are lost, as well as glucose, they have been able

to save many lives. The same principle is involved in the advice to people with

traveler's illness. They are told to alternately drink mineral water and

something that contains sugar (sucrose is broken down in the gut to provide

glucose). They are thus able to absorb the salts and the water.

I still have reservations about use of Gookinaide for CFS because it contains

both glucose and citric acid, and I think these are problems for many PWCs. But

if people are finding that it helps them, I'll go back to the drawing board.

Glucose is the only sugar which the body can use directly without having to

digest it first. Glucose is the only sugar which the body can actually use

directly as energy; all other sugars have to be broken down first. So the

glucose in gookinaid is able to pass directly from the stomach into the

bloodstream.

BUT!!!... the amount of fructose in the other flavour of Gookinaid is tiny!

The only real reason to avoid the flavoured versions is because of the added

flavourings, which might not agree with you. Yet, for those of us who're

interested in the purest product which will require no digestion for it to

enter into the circulation, the competition flavour seems the best choice.
