Guest guest
, Thank you for the " chiding " ~~ I think it's well to remember that this is NOT something that's ever going to just up and " go away " for us. Some will do better with various interventions than others. And I'm pretty sure that if we had one, and it's not working that well, we'll wish we'd done one of the others. .. . . A royal crap shoot as I see it. So one studies on the problem as much as one is able, ponders, plans, and finally put our chips on one or the other or other. And live with the consequences. . . . I was laughing the other day reading a scholarly paper defining " regurgitating " once a day as being quote and unquote " serious " ~~ and wondered what the authors would make of: after every third swallow? And some days, after *every* swallow. Perhaps scientifically-oriented brains lack the imagination to imagine that? Or perhaps as a country and culture, we've been well fed for so long, that the possibility of starvation doesn't even register (except possibly with young girls with eating disorders. . . .) I for one am glad you've managed the past 20 years as well as you have, and for your presence here. Like you, I started at the beginning of this board, and so many have come and gone. I am very grateful to the old timers who stick around and give the rest of us some perspective. xox

Guest guest
Hello Everyone. Just to see if anyone can help me understand what is happening. My Doctor is very nice but I seem to be teaching him at the moment. I have managed to get to a star where my weight is stabilised at 13 1/2 stone. Still 35 pounds less than before though. I have been eating about 4500 calories a day to get to an intake of about 2100. Bit of a pain, but nowhere near the level of problems some of you are having, which i am grateful for and feel terribly bad for some of you. My problem is the GI surgeon wants to do a Myotomy but has found I have Barretts Esophagus. The initial biopsy came back with signs of dysplasia. They are doing another Biopsy shortly to check the level of Dysplasia. I have read about it and if it is high level then i have a bit of trouble ahead. Anyway i will cross that bridge if i come to it. The initial issue is he dosnt want to do the Myotomy until they have sorted out the Barretts. Let us say it is just plain old Barretts. Why can't the Myotomy be done? I understand if it is more serious that they will be treating that as more serious in the short term than the Achalasia, but if not what complications can it cause if they just go head with the Heller? Anyone out there with some experience of all of this then your opinion may help to clear the fog for me. > Stuart McCormick > Mobile Inventory Program Limited > Dairy Farm Buildings, Saighton > Chester. Guest guest
Hi I sure believe in your concept on cleaning out the esophagus. got me on Coke many years ago, when I was real bad I went to Mcs every morning and for many minutes or so drank the fizz off the top of Coke. Now I can get HOT coffee down, then on my walk home I drink another cup, sometimes regurgitating it up on the street. But today I am so much better, BUT WHY? Fiber, Butter, Magnesium and COKE!! Each night while watching Leno I drink a 16 oz bottle of water, this causes any junk to come up. I use a spit up glass. And twice a day I use Magnesium 250 mg, this seems great for me, seems to open the LES, and gives a great BM. For a good BM you need fibre, at breakfast use a cerial 5 gms of fibre with a lot of Lactade milk. I stand vertical, it goes through great. Lunch is Bushes baked beans hot with a bit of water and a spoon of real butter and a toasted English muffin 8 gms fiber loaded with real butter. And a can of COKE which has a lot of fizz. Dinner is usually thin soup and bread toasted with a lot of butter, followed with coffee. I have had no operation last 6 years. I believe I am so much better than others who have had the HM. Of course I am retired so this makes it much easier. Of couse I stay away from meat or solid items, but I love onion rings ot french fries under the broler with some added butter. Anyway - my grandmother just got diagnosed with cancer of the E and is on a liquid diet - didn't someone post a smoothies cookbook or recipes on this site at one point? We have reason to believe she will be on liquids until the end and I want to help her have as many options as possible... > Thanks - this was the first place I thought of when my mom called me with the news - I don't think there's anyone in my family who is going to understand and get it like I am. > Hope everyone is doing well. > > ~ in NC > Achalasia free for almost 4 years! - can you believe it's been that long?? > >
