Guest guest
, thank you for sharing this. I do hope things get easier for you during the next days. This time of year is so difficult isn't it - with all the foods and drinks that we can only observe others enjoying. Merry Christmas! Kim ________________________________ From: lindsaykite <lindsaykite@...> achalasia Sent: Thursday, December 22, 2011 6:08 PM Subject: My journey post HM...and Merry Christmas  I am 5 weeks post HM and am now starting to try some soft foods. I still have to eat really slow and in tiny amounts and some foods go down better than others. I made some muffins, and the day they were made I ate one with no problems. The next day I warmed one up and it didn't go down as well. All foods are trial and error at the moment. I take magnesium everyday and still have a glass of Sustagen (like Ensure) because I am not getting enough nutrients in the small amounts of food I am eating. I still sleep up on 3 pillows to be safe at night, but I haven't needed my wedge for a couple of weeks. The interesting thing is that through my whole journey with A I have never had to spit up anything....ever! I find this odd because I think everyone else here does it all the time! I hope everyone here is able to have a good Christmas, and get through it whatever way you can. I will by trying some turkey with the vegetables I know I can already eat. I will also be making a creme caramel for me while everyone else eats their stodgy Christmas pudding. Socializing is the hardest part for me at the moment, because all I can drink is water (no soft drink, wine or alcohol)...it's not quite the same! After 19 years in one house, we moved to a beautiful dream house 18 months ago, put in a pool and finally got it all landscaped and finished so that we could enjoy many BBQ's with friends this summer. Summer is here and now I can't eat BBQ meat/chicken!! Merry Christmas to you all, and thank you for the fabulous advice and words of wisdom. Guest guest
Hi ,  Sharing your thoughts will benefit others who have yet to find this great site. As you experiment with foods to see which ones go down and which ones give you problems, please keep in mind that it is not always the characteristics of the food that determine what you should or should not eat, but it might be the pressures in your esophagus at the time that you are eating that allow the food to go down or not. Please don't give up on a food just because it failed to go down one time. On another try it might go down smoothly. Strange as it might seem, it is sometimes the time of day that also might make a difference. For some reason with me, some foods I get down much easier at lunch time than at dinner time. Don't ask me why. Often we don't have answers to these questions, but observing what happens can be just as good a guide as to what to do, even if you don't know the science behind it.  From: Leda Mae <leda444@...> Subject: Re: My journey post HM...and Merry Christmas " achalasia " <achalasia > Date: Thursday, December 22, 2011, 10:10 PM  , thank you for sharing this. Guest guest
Hi , I guess time will have to prevail as far as eating different foods. But I am sure you will feel better sooner than you think! At least it sounds like you are able to eat some solids so that is a step in the right direction! The wine will come later.... Enjoy your holidays! Guest guest
Amen to that! This is my first Christmas with A so it will be strange. I kept this from most of my family because I didn't know what was going on until 2 months ago > I have always had a good appetite so I am sure the fam will be wondering why I have to pass on some of my favorites. But I will have some Zinfandel with some sprite though!!!! About the only good thing I can say about A is that I am back down to my post high school weight! My simplest Christmas wish for us is that we are all able to eat some holiday goodies and are able to stay healthy!  Merry Christmas!  Kim A ________________________________ From: Leda Mae <leda444@...> " achalasia " <achalasia > Sent: Thursday, December 22, 2011 9:10 PM Subject: Re: My journey post HM...and Merry Christmas  , thank you for sharing this. Guest guest
,  You are so correct! It has taken me some time to realize this as well and I still will say I will never understand it but for me, usually eating breakfast or lunch is a little easier than eating later at night. I tend to eat something light for dinner. If I decide to eat taler than normal it usually kicks me later. I have also noticed that if I sit still for 15-30 minutes after I have eaten something substantial than I usually won't throw it up. For me that is hard as I am on the go a lot but sometimes have to force myself to do so. One day I can eat something and it goes down fine and the next time maybe not. It will never be perfect but I think for me it was accepting that fact that is making it a little easier lately! I am still having some trouble forcing food down when it gets stuck honestly some 7up drinken rapidly has helped a bit.  An another note, a have a prescription for Difedipine for chest pains and they do help a little but does anyone get spasms in their throat? Any idea what to do for that?  Kim A ________________________________ From: RICHARD FRIEDMAN <cynmark24@...> achalasia Sent: Thursday, December 22, 2011 9:27 PM Subject: Re: My journey post HM...and Merry Christmas  Hi ,  Sharing your thoughts will benefit others who have yet to find this great site. As you experiment with foods to see which ones go down and which ones give you problems, please keep in mind that it is not always the characteristics of the food that determine what you should or should not eat, but it might be the pressures in your esophagus at the time that you are eating that allow the food to go down or not. Guest guest
Thanks Kim, I think sometimes I am too impatient! I got my with Christmas Day, I got to eat some turkey with my soft vegetables. It was the tiniest piece, but gee it was good! I also enjoyed cheese on ritz crackers for dinner followed by a pavlova. The pavlova dessert went down really well because it's light and smooth. I even had a second little piece! > > Hi , > I guess time will have to prevail as far as eating different foods. Guest guest
I know what you mean all too well! I still really stress with meat unless it is practicly blenderized. I too am trying to learn patience. Some days are good and some aren't. Not sure what pavlova is but I will bet it was good!  Kim A ________________________________ From: lindsaykite <lindsaykite@...> achalasia Sent: Sunday, December 25, 2011 4:47 PM Subject: Re: My journey post HM...and Merry Christmas  Thanks Kim, I think sometimes I am too impatient! Guest guest
Pavlova is a very sweet dessert made with egg whites and sugar. It usually has cream and fruit on top, and is extremely smooth and light. It's almost been one of the easiest things to eat lately. > > > > Hi , > > I guess time will have to prevail as far as eating different foods.
