I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Personally for me I can not eat

anything and drink water-I will throw up faster than you could blink. I drink

sweet ice tea mostly and will do pretty good. I can drink water as long as I eat

nothing!! It's so strange! Hope you get relief soon.

Hi, I actually had the same problem at about the same time. I get full so fast

and I am a little over three months post HM and I am now slowly starting to eat

more. Also I tried drinking a malibu baybreeze about a month after and I did not

enjoy it and because of that time I feel I can no longer drink or have the

desire to. My taste buds have changed so the things I liked to eat before tastes

horrible now. I dont recall about my spasms though. Good luck and I hope it goes

well.

Subject: Pepper and wine and anything else?

Ok, it's the Christmas season which means attempting to be social.

Friday night I went out and ordered pumpkin soup which I thought would be safe.I

could taste lots of pepper and that night I had the worst sleep ever (spasms and

general stomach pain). The other other thing I had was water. So, I am

guessing that pepper is a no no after a HM! In future I will have to check

before ordering.

Saturday was my husbands work Christmas dinner. They were kind enough to

arrange a special pureed soup and I was able to have the brulee for dessert. I

only drank water again, and didn't eat all the soup or dessert because I got

painfully full. I took a Buscopan and Pariet before sleeping and only woke once

with spasms which was good.

Sunday, I went to a friend's house for an afternoon drink. I decided to try a

's and milk which I think went down ok. Then I had a wine and had to

leave because I was in so much pain. The spasms wouldn't go even after drinking

nearly a liter of water, I had a stomach ache and it felt like it was going to

explode.

I am 3 1/2 post HM, hardly eating anything but my stomach feels bloated nearly

all the time.

Is this all normal. Should I not be drinking any alcohol at all? It's the

Christmas season and it's pretty boring only drinking water!

What other foods, spices or drinks should I avoid. This week I am allowed to

progress from pureed to soft foods.

I am able to have coffee and chocolate without a problem.

So here it is Sunday afternoon, after having a busy social weekend, and I feel

sore and annoyed! :(

We are all different. Some are able to eat anything without problems

after the surgery, others have problems. Both pepper and wine are

irritants to the esophagus and perhaps that is why they caused you

problems. Your esophagus may still be irritated from the surgery and

adding to it may have been enough to trigger the problems. The 's,

coffee and chocolate could also be irritants even though they didn't

bother you. The milk may have helped the 's. Sometimes it is a

mystery why one food is okey and another is not.

doesnt hurt my tummy at all. and i am from louisiana, we eat pepper, we love

onions and hot peppers  and bell peppers and chipotle.. etc. and i am still

eating all that even as soon as i started eating, after the H.M. it did not hurt

me at all. I guess it is true.. we are all so different! kim bailey

Hi ,

I absolutely cannot have wine. Pepper seems to be ok. As everyone else has said,

we are all unique, it's just an ongoing experience to learn what we can deal

with and can't.

Oh, noes! Don't take my pepper away from me! (I'm living on puree,

pretty much, and without my special non-salt/pepper blend (using a

potassium replacement 'cause my potassium is so low) everything would

pretty much taste like everything else. I am NOT an expert on

myotomies, mine or anyone else's, but prolly should point out that *all*

they do from the point of view of your esophagus is open the LES so food

can drop through. I would also guess that our entire GI system from the

tummy on down is VERY out of practice by the time we get to a Heller's.

.. . . If I recall correctly from my third grade trip with ny

Microbe, *all* kinds of stuff lives in the guts of normal regular peeps.

We, none of us, are that any more, and need to give the rest of the

system time to get up to par. Yogurt with *live* cultures (check the

label/mostly it's dead stuff), and pro-biotics can give the gut a hand

up, but aren't a quick nor perfect " cure. " It *may* have been more the

fiber with the pumpkin soup than the pepper. . . . pumpkin has a *load*

of it. . . .

At any rate, take your time and *go slow* ~~ and ignore the fact that

it's Christmas and you WANT to be normal. You're not yet, and may not

ever be. But it sure is an improvement, no?

I do my spitty at home into dry catfood (18 0unce) bags, and I'm simply

enormously grateful when I have a one or two bag day instead of a three

bag day. . . . (It's what *doesn't* go into that third bag that keeps

me alive till the docs kind find something better to do with me, lol!)

Gross, eh?

It's very much a game to try and see what happens. The only problem is that if

something doesn't agree, you have to put up with the pain for hours! It's going

to be a very long haul trying different foods, and eating out I think will be

next to impossible.

Hopefully, after the surgery settles down, it might be a different story. I

have to keep reminding myself that it's early days post op!
