Guest guest
I think it was that put to words my thoughts... tell him that he's going to the dr's or you're going out the door. Â You and your kids need him around, and he's being completely irresponsible not going to and having things looked at. Â This isn't something he can just forget about for a few weeks and then things will be better... he's doing more damage every day by not going and having a checkup. Good luck! kim in canada ________________________________ From: milwaukeemommy <milwaukeemommy@...> achalasia Sent: Monday, December 12, 2011 8:46 AM Subject: Re: Soooo frustrated .... Guest guest
Hi Kim, Just thought it was interesting that my middle na,e is Dawn and I am 42!!! Anyways, I go through periods of vomiting and not being able to eat as well. I thought it was the flu too. Maybe an already weakened immunes system leaves us more susceptible to different strains of the flu. I wonder that myself. Unfortunately it won't get any better and prolonging the inevitable, like treatment, can and will make it worse. Does anyone know iF Achalasia is considered an autoimmune disease? Guest guest
Hi , Â This number is for the dysphagia clinic ( trouble swallowing ) and the number is 4147-805-2901. Although when I first started going I was terrified, Froedert took such good care of me and put my mind at ease. They have many doctors that specialize in different swallowing disorders . My doctor is Dr Babei and he is very good. If he can get referred to DR Massey, that would be great but oif he can't wait that long, Dr Massey oversees the Achalasia patients anyways so he is almost guaranteed good treatment. Guest guest
Thanks Kim -- I assume the " 7 " shouldn't be there correct? He seemed to have been eating ok -- so I made meatloaf & potatoes for dinner last night & he had one small potato, just the insides. I said " that's all you're having " & he said he can't eat meat. I asked about the huge crock pot of chicken soup he's made with all kinds of neat & veggies, & he said those are soft enough, the meatloaf is hard meat. He's off of work for the rest of the year. When I said it would be a FINE time to make a dr appt he just glared at me. Ok, guess I'm done. Guess he'll just not eat meat the rest of his life. Sorry I'm bitter -- my MIL was here this weekend & that ended badly, so I'm feeling a bit hurt from that side of the family all around. > > > > > > > > > > > > So get this -- my husband just got home from his parents house, where he was hunting for a week. Guest guest
Hi , Â Sorry -If I am not careful I type dyslexic! Yes -omit the 7! I cannot say enough great things about Froedert. Dr Massey is the head of the GI Dept, and very well respected nationally as a leading expert on Achalasia. So why not get the best treatment available? I compared my invoices from Aurora Medical Ctr and Froedert is eitehr comparable or cheaper. And it is not uncommon for somoene with A to not eat meat or eat very little of it. I can't seem to get it down well either. It gets stuck and causes me some distress. I find that if I eat anything remotely solid, I have to sit down and eat very slowly and even after I am done I have to sit still for awhile, at least 15 minutes or it will come back up. I need to learn to blenderize. You could probably put that in the blender for him and he could get it down. What is MIL? Guest guest
LOL -- sorry, MIL is mother-in-law. Bleah. Well he ran out of prescription & guess what -- yep, they gave it to him over the phone. In fact, he didn't even talk to anyone. It's " press 1 to speak to an attendant " " press 2 to request a refill " etc -- so he got it. But he still actually wants to talk to the dr because he wants to double the rx. Every rx he's ever taken, works for a while but after about a year he needs to take something else. He either starts to get sick on the med, or it just doesn't work as well as it used to. Christmas should be interesting -- my mom is making lasagna for dinner tonight which I think he will struggle with. Merry Christmas to all of you!! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > So get this -- my husband just got home from his parents house, where he was hunting for a week. Guest guest
Not long after my HM I regurged a hamburger. My surgeon asked if it was extra lean. It was. He said to get the regular ground beef and cook it less. We need the fat to help it down. Rare is softer meat. Day old cold chicken did the same. I also have found that slowly but surely (3 years later), many of the problems are easing ...foam in the E, regurging, spasms (all but gone), not one bit of GERD (I had for 42 yrs since my 1st pregnancy), with the Dors Fundo, no nite time regurg and aspirate. It still takes me time to eat, and air swallowing is a problem. I clear the E before I eat if I feel a buildup of foam.I drink a bit of water and roll my stomach up like a belly dancer, or lean into the kitchen sink and press my diaphragm against the edge. I get up and walk or stretch my arms overhead or twist and bend from the waist up to move the air up when food is stuck on top of it during a meal. Sodas make things worse for me. We all have 'stuff' going on, but learn to deal with it. Happy I did the surgery! Not perfect, but a helluva lot better off. in Santa Barbara
Guest guest
, I am glad you are feeling better and are finding ways to deal with it. I find quirky things I can do to make it easier on me too. I am a little leary about eating burgers but I will cook it for a shorter period of time when I am ready ! Guest guest
I just had to share this with you all -- as you know my husband refuses to go to the dr even though he's having quite a bit of trouble. So ---- he had told me last month that *I* needed to go to my doctor for a complete check up. Huh? Turns out his employer's insurance company is making everyone get a physical in order to keep the lower rates, if you choose not to, rates will go up. So I had a check up scheduled anyway for yesterday, but I thought " Oh yay, he finally has to go " OH NO --- he gets by with just having a nurse come in & take his BP & some blood. So....the results? His cholesterol is HIGH (which has always been LOW -- like 170 -- even though he's always eaten very fatty foods - I always thought NO FAIR), including his bad cholesterol & his ratio, he's pre-hypertensive & pre-diabetic. He also is down to 154 lbs from 175 (he's 6'3 " ). Well I haven't seen him eat anything GOOD in months. It's all chocolate & junk food ---- lots of butter (which I do know from all of you that butter helps get things down) --- & LOTS of soup which out of a can, can be very fatty & unhealthy. So I do feel for him --- he's eating what he can to survive --- but now all these other problems have come up. Gosh, a trip to the doctor for a full work up would be a REALLY great idea, no? -- husband diagnosed with 'A' 7/08, Heller 11/08 > > So get this -- my husband just got home from his parents house, where he was hunting for a week. Guest guest
As hard as it is for him to eat you would think he would be ready for treatment. Froedert has an excellent dysphagia ( swallowing disorders ) unit. He probably should have a dilation, he would feel so much better. Most of us are on higher carb and fat content diets because pasta, potatoes  and soups and yes lots of butter ( I put it in my butternut squash soup ) or just carbs in general may go down better. For now maybe you should try buying the organic soups in the big boxes. That is what I have been doing and V8 also makes a line of healthier soups that are more pureed. It sounds like he is really underweight which is going to cause him lots of issues. He sounds very stubborn. What needs to happen to him to go in for treatment???  Hang in there - I feel for you!  Kim A ________________________________ From: milwaukeemommy <milwaukeemommy@...> achalasia Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2012 7:17 AM Subject: Re: Soooo frustrated ....  I just had to share this with you all -- as you know my husband refuses to go to the dr even though he's having quite a bit of trouble.
