Guest guest
Hi, Lynea, >I think it may have been me who said that I tried MSM and had weird >side-effects. Then I found out it is a " sulfate, " and I have always been >allergic to " sulfa drugs " --they used to cause hives in my childhood. The >pharmacist said that " sulfate " indicates a sulfa drug. > >Of course, I just found out that Dexedrine is actually " Dextroamphetamine >Sulfate, " and I don't seem to get allergic reaction to it. MSM has sulfur in it, as do sulfates and sulfa drugs, but they aren't really closely related. There is no reason to expect that an intolerance to sulfa drugs would point to intolerance of MSM. Sulphites (common used as preservatives in salad bars, wine) cause allergic reaction in some people, and this would be much more likely to point to potential problems with MSM. Sulfate, a different group yet, is VERY unlikely to give any allergic responses, as sulfates are present in the body in large quantities all the time. Glucosamine sulfate, for instance, makes up a lot of the connective tissue.
