Wondering how many people over 70 have achalasia? I got mine at 75.

I know Maggie is in my age range. It is lucky that I am retired so I can work on

solutions. I have had no operations and have not been back to a GI in 3 years.

My secret is Coke, Magnesium, BUTTER and activity. I walk every day, gardening,

painting etc. Planted my second crop of Tomatoes today, I take the skin off,

then they seem to slide down.

Something else seems to help, I drink a lot of cold water from a 16 oz bottle, I

put my head back and try to swallow a BIG gulp. Now I believe the mussel in the

E can be trained to work again, much like when people have strokes, they can be

retrained.

Maybe the mussel in the E is paralyzed!!! If I keep my eating to things that

work for me, then I am ok, but if I go out to eat I sometimes have problems. Two

years ago I used to regurgitate on my walks home from Mcs drinking a

second cup of coffee. Today it rarely happens.

Happy 81st Birthday Ray! Congratulations on being able to manage eating and

maintaining your weight. I may not agree on the coke and butter, but if I was

your age I'd eat as much butter as I wanted and probably even drink pop! I'm a

runner so the thought of swallowing mounds of butter is not for me! I also

remember doing the " gulping " and forcing things down for a few years before my

esophagectomy, Now I'm healthy and eat quite well. (I'm 45 so I don't fit in

the over 70 group yet:-) Hope you have a fantastic birthday,.

Ray, I do wish you'd stop telling people how old I am. Since you insist

on

repeating that lets set the record straight. I am almost 2 months older

than

you, so there!

My secret is Coke, Magnesium, BUTTER and activity. Planted my second crop

of Tomatoes today, I take the skin off, then they seem to slide down.

Still putting out this garbage I see. Who wants to go through life only

eating,

drinking, coke, butter and tomatoes? LOL Tomato don't slide down for me

I have to chew them a bit.

If I keep my eating to things that work for me, then I am ok, but if I go

out to eat I sometimes have problems

Good for you Ray....and for being a good sport.:) Happy Birthday!
