Guest guest
This is a very " personal " decision in that your own experiences will dictate what you should or should not do. Obviously there are the " known " kinds of foods that one would think they should avoid at all costs, (you mentioned a few)Â yet there are many of us who don't avoid them, and have no problems with it. Sometimes it does not matter what you eat and drink since all of it might go thru, and conversely, maybe none of it will go thru. You may never know ahead of time how (and where) a meal might end up. I normally say that you need to experiment to see what works and what doesn't, but since it might also be the case that an open LES (lower esophageal sphincter) could be more open at some times, and less at other times, that could be the determining factor, and not what you actually eat. Â My advice is to start all meals with a clearing drink (if that doesn't go down, don't follow it right away with food; you've been " warned') and then begin eating slowly. Try to become aware if food clears into the stomach or not. I tend to drink more than most people because, like a river (and in NJ, we've had plenty of them lately), it carries everything along. Finish a meal with a clearing drink so that the last bit of food doesn't just sit there, slowly stretching the esophagus, plus causing the next meal to start off with a feeling of being " stuck. " Â Yes, the foods you mention, and others, have a tendency to give us more problems, but you need not avoid them like the plague. You need to have an open mind (and an open esophagus) and experiment and see what works and what doesn't (both some of the time and all of the time). Â From: kimellenbailey <kimellenbailey@...> Subject: after myotomy - food achalasia Date: Monday, September 12, 2011, 8:00 AM Â i was wondering what i reallly should and should NOT eat after my myotomy--when i am totally recovered.. i want to do the very best that i can do for my E. (and body) since i still have the basic problem of the extended E. I would think that i should not do peelings -or perhaps thick peelings like apples- maybe mashed potatoes with peelings might not be bad(?) are there things that yall have learned NOT to indulge in post myotomy? meats? breads? I was thinking that breads may have to be off the list since they still would make a ball in there and sit.. what about pastas and rice? raw veggies? meats?
