Guest guest
Fellow Achalasians are the only ones who can understand my concern/worry. Here's what's up: I am 2 1/2 years post myotomy. I was diagnosed early and everything has been great. In the past week, I have noticed food 'sitting' in my chest for a while. I often have to physically move around or sit perfectly straight to get the food to go down. This morning it is most noticible. I am drinking coffee and I can feel it sitting, not in my stomache, for long periods of time. I am becoming hesitant to eat - like before diagnosis & surgery. For those of you who have had repeat procedures - how long did you wait with return symptoms (like these) before going back to the Dr? To add to my complication, I am in a different state from my A Dr. & I start on a new insurance 9/1. Would love to hear from those who have experienced this. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Kathy I am sorry to hear this and totally understand your concern. I have just recently found myself in a very similar situation 5 years on from a myotomy and, like you, was dismayed that things might have failed. Definately try and get help sooner rather than later and ask for a barium swallaw and endoscopy to be organised. This is what my consultant immidiately did. The swallow showed everything was indeed 'pooling' at the bottom of my gullet and the endoscopy showed that the myotomy hadn't failed (good news) but that scar tissue had formed and was causing the tightening. I have had a dilatation which seems to have eased this. So whilst I don't wish to make any suggestions as to what is causing your problems hang in there. Very good luck to you and my best wishes. Guest guest
Hi Kay Sorry to know about your problem. I hope this settles down quickly. I am not aware of myotomy of cricopharyngeus. If there is scarring and tightness at the lower end, could it not be the source of problem? Good luck anil achalasia From: kayf.davies@... Guest guest
Hi Anil You could indeed be right! I am hoping that things will settle down and it is just my gullet being very sensitive from having loads of things shoved down it over the last couple of weeks!!
