Guest guest
I went to Liverpool as planned yesterday and what a disaster it was. I came away from the appointment in tears. The last 2 appointments that i had there in clinic lead me to believe (the doctors distinctly told me) that there was further surgery that can be done namely the Roux-En-Y operation to replumb my insides to help with the swallowing and reflux. Well it now appears that they have gone back on their word! No operation for this financial year as there is no more funds available for non essential surgery for his department (he is the head of department by the way). I asked him " Do you mean postcode lottery funding for treatment because of budget shortfalls? " " Yes, if you want to call it that. " " but what about my swallowing getting worse and the reflux? He just shrugged his shoulders and suggested that i see a councellor for a chat to help me come to terms that things will never get any better. I gasped in horror and started crying. They did say that because of my health problems they still want to monitor me because there maybe funding for the operation in the next financial year and so want to see me on april 2nd next year for a review. When i left the clinic i was too upset to go straight home so the kindly driver who took me to the clinic from home took me on a tour around Bodnant Gardens on our way home and bought me a cup of tea to help calm me down. How kind he was. I was shocked by the brutal but straight to the point talk from the surgeon and i am still trying to get my head round it if you like. What i need right now is to contact someone who has also had the oesophagectomy done and gone on to have continuing swallowing problems and also problems with reflux like i have. Any ideas of who i can contact????? from the UK
Guest guest
Hi , How horrible for you. I don't have recommendations, just writing to offer my support. Hopefully someone in the group can be more specific with regard to your request. I'm afraid your experience may be what we in the states will face before long if this healthcare plan goes through. I suppose there is no way for you to have the surgery somewhere else? Kim > > I went to Liverpool as planned yesterday and what a disaster it was. I came away from the appointment in tears.
