Ok, I'm 24 hours after my Heller and right this second I have am having a

spasm!!  Is that a sign of bad things to come???!!!  grrr.  I've always called

them pain attacks, and usually they go away for me if I drink, but this one

isn't!  I've also had alot of pain in my left side where one of the incisions is

and it feels like someone is ripping my skin apart, haven't found the reason why

yet.

Hanging in there....

I have noticed that mine are triggered by gas, and post surgery, your bowels

slow down from weakened abdominal muscles, which makes gas a lot worse. My

best advice is to take a laxative and some gas-x and hope that your body

starts working correctly soon.

,

I had spasms as well, the day after and 5-10 times a day immediately after.

They went away after two weeks.  I thought I had GERD for the last year but it

was spasms.  Dexilant works well for me to control them.

Hope this helps!

Hi Jen,

I never had spasms before my HM but had several after for about two weeks, none

since.

And I too had lots of pulling pain in one incision (left side, midway btw ribs

and navel.) I was convinced it was ripping open or infected since rest of

incisions were fine. My surgeon said it was the only one that had to go thru

muscle layers so as I moved, breathed, coughed, etc, I would feel it. And it

would take longer to heal than the others. It was good in a couple weeks, and

great in 4-6 Wks.

Hang in there-- and keep walking as much as you don't want to. I really does

help reduce the recovery hassles from anesthesia.

my daughter will be having a 2nd heller the week of the 19th. it is good to know

some of the interventions used to deal with the post heller spasms. Has anyone

found a solution to the shoulder pain you all seem to wake up from surgery

with?

walking is good for the shoulder pain which is caused by the co2 they use to

blow up your insides so they can get to your esphagus better.  They usually

don't get it all out, so for some reason it settles in your shoulders.

Also, I am using an ice pack on my sore incision, and it helps a great deal.

Mine is the kind w/flexible ice in a cloth holder and a band that can be used to

go all around your body and velcroed to the front, it's awesome & I love it!
