Date: Thu, 6 Oct 2011 01:08:42 -0700 Subject: Roux-En-Y operation refused Is there anyone out there who has had an Oesophagectomy for Achalasia and had to go one and have the Roux-En-Y Diversion operation for reflux?????? In 2 previous consults with the same consultant i was led to belive that this operation was an option for me. You see, after i had the Oesophagectomy back in 2004 and some dilatations withing the 1st year post op. i remained happy with my swallowing. It is only in the recent 10 months or so that the swallowing problems that you accociate with Achalasia and reflux returned. Back in March this year i had a dilatation which ended with the balloon bursting because of a stricture. In June this year i had a Barium Swallow done and it showed that the bottom half on my stomach tube is now only 2/3rds of a cm wide. So the chats about the Roux-En-y operation came about. For the last 2 yrs i have had the use of a jejunal feeding tube to help maintain my weight and this is still working great but for 1 thing. I keep getting infections namely MRSA in the stoma and granuloma. Now i cannot put silver nitrate on the granuloma as 90% of it is just under the skin next to the stoma and cannot be burned. All i can treat it with is antibiotics and keep the stoma as dry as possible by having to put dressings around the sroma 4 times a day to soak up any exudate that leaks out. This repeat infections cannot go on and the tube needs to be resited once again but this cannot be done until i have surgery to improve my swallowing and reflux. Catch 22 time again. from the UK
