Guest guest
Hi my name is Tim and my wife had an HM this morning in Pittsburgh with Dr. Luketich. They want her to do a beryium swallow later today (same day as the surgery). She is wondering - is this normal? She is having persistent pain and spasms near the surgical scars (at the suture point). Thanks for any advice. Sincerely, Tim Gunn.
Guest guest
Hello. To answer your question it is normal to have a barium swallow afterwards. The test is to make sure no holes are in the esophagus. I do not know anything about the spasms and pain part. I hope this helps, and I am wishing your wife a speedy recovery. -- Monicqua-- From: Gunn <pletchsr@...> achalasia Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 2:28 PM Subject: Urgent question  Hi my name is Tim and my wife had an HM this morning in Pittsburgh with Dr. Luketich. Guest guest
Hi Tim, Yes it is normal to have the barium swallow on the same day. It is not painful at all. It should have been clearly explained to you before the surgery though. Don't worry, the spasms are normal too, but they will settle down within a few days. Wish her luck:-) achalasia From: pletchsr@... Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2011 15:28:33 -0400 Subject: Urgent question Hi my name is Tim and my wife had an HM this morning in Pittsburgh with Dr. Luketich. Guest guest
hi tim i just had my HM on friday and i have had pain in the incision right at the one at the belly button which i think was the main one. It is normal of course to be in pain after surgery but maybe she is not getting enough morphine in the hospital. Im not sure about the spasms there but i did have a spasm the next night when i had gone home but it was in my back where my spasms normally occur. I hope she has a good recovery and i wish her luck on the future. in philadelphia pa. Guest guest
Yes the surgeons will have this test done again so that they can make sure there is no leakage or perferations. Remember she just had surgery and she might have some pain. If the pain keeps persisting or gets worse I would let her doctor know. THe pain shoulg lessen over the next few days nad weeks as she heals. > > > Hi my name is Tim and my wife had an HM this morning in Pittsburgh with Dr. Luketich. Guest guest
Tim, having a Barium Swallow post op is quite normal to have. It is to check for any leaks and to make sure that everything is ok internally. The persistant pain that she is experiencing is also normal and if bad enough plase tell her to take some painkilling drug that she would have been advised to do anyway by the doctors looking after her. ________________________________ From: Gunn & lt;pletchsr@... & gt; achalasia Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 8:28 PM Subject: Urgent question  Hi my name is Tim and my wife had an HM this morning in Pittsburgh with Dr. Luketich.
