My son had his follow up appointment after 21/2 weeks of his surgery with his

surgeon Dr. Dempsey.  Doctor looked at his stitches and then we just had a

general conversation,  He wanted to see again after a month.  is

doing well and is not having issues and I am wondering if that trip to PA is

needed for a follow up again.  Me having to take a day off and then driving

back and forth to just say he is doing well.

What do you think, should I request the doctor to just have a phone conversation

or is there a special checkup that is needed after a month of the 1st follow

up.  Any ideas or suggestions?  BTW, you guys are the best as many of you had

written that spasms are severe and more often after the surgery then it may

subside. It  gave me some hope and that seems to be subsiding.  Since about 1

1/2 weeks (after 4 weeks of surgery) has not experienced any spasm and the

doctor has told that he can now take only 20mg of antacid medicine before

bedtime, although we are continuing to take 2 times a day as he is still afraid

that he may get them but we hope to try just one dose over the weekend.  Other

than that he is able to eat pizza without the crest and pretty much everything

but has not given fried chicken or burgers a try yet.  Maybe after 6 weeks, I

hope that should be long enough to wait for those kinds of choices.

Thanks,

Priti

I hit 4 weeks tomorrow post myotomy and started returning to moderate exercise

after 2 weeks and have been fully doing everything since about 3 1/2

weeks.(well, still trying not to lift my 40lb kids) but generally doing yoga,

biking, hiking, etc. Just one data point.

23rd just as a back-up. I really hope it goes well. Also, since the surgery, how

long does it take for your body to really heal and get back to normal? When I

start school at the end of August I will be in an aerobics and swimming class

and i'm not sure if i should still keep them or if it will be damaging to my

recovery.

Hi Priti,

I'm very happy that your son is doing so well.

Perhaps the question you posed here can be best answered by Dr. Dempsey (who I

recommended), or by Notan. When it comes to one's health, I generally believe

you can't or shouldn't  " phone it in. " Please feel free to discuss your

concerns and needs with Dr. Dempsey. I have all the faith that he will give you

the right answer.

You can ask that doctor if your son can be seen by a local doctor and

the information forwarded.

I agree with Notan. That is what I am doing with Dr. Luketich. I am seeing a

local GI and having records sent over.

Hello ,

yes, I remember you very well. When I was so torn on which surgeon will be best

for my son, knowing your opinion and story about you meeting with Dr. Dempsey

made it much easier for me to go with the decision.  Meeting with Dr.Dempsey I

too got the same feeling, conservative approach and trusting intuition.  I will

welcome Notan's answer as well.  It is always very informative as well.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks,

Priti

I have been on vacation and have come back to read such great news!!! I'm so

happy, his life will so change and he will enjoy sitting at the dinner table and

eating.  Slow is the word and small amounts. As for the doc's visit I'm old

school I would go if you can. I like the same doc. watching over me who did the

surgery. Quiche was a favorite of mine post op.

All the best for a wonderful food filled life He is young and will have a

positive result long term....I know it.

SO CAL
