Guest guest
I lost 2 jobs dealing with my sons achalasia. I would definitely look in to FMLA or some type of disability. I would talk to HR so at least its documented. So far I havent found anyone who really understands- even though they say they do Good luck! Well I got to feeling better, went in, but had to leave 2.5 hrs later bc they started back up. Couldn't go in today either...awful spasms. > I just feel guilty...I know most people could never possibly understand. It's so frustrating being sick. Guest guest
Have you tried prophylactic low-dose SSRI medications yet? Paroxetine (Paxil) works for many folks. The typical dose when used as an antidepressant is 40-60mg/day, but you don't need the full dose to find relief. I take just 5mg daily and it keeps my NCCPs away 99% of the time. I've tried several times to discontinue it, but every time the pains have returned within a week. My physician writes the prescription for 20mg, and I get 90 of those for $10 at the Sam's Club (or Walmart) pharmacy. Then I split them in half with a pill-splitter, and then break those in half with my thumbnail/fingers. The final pill ends up about the size of a tick. If you haven't yet tried some of the SSRI meds, I highly recommend it! Debbi in Michigan aka Pepto-Deb > > I was just wondering what some of you with the spasms do about work. Guest guest
Have you tried using a heating pad with your spasms? That seems to help me when mine are bad. I don't know what you do at work but I sit all day & finally decided to try bring the pad to work. I brought a belt with several holes in it & was able to strap the pad to me which kept it close to my back. The pad has a 13' cord so I could move around some. I do take Hyomax-ft under the tongue if my spasm starts to bother me. If it starts to get too bad I take 1/2 a 10mg Flexeril. The only issue I have with the Flexeril is it tends to make me sleepy. That is what I'm dealing with right now. I had a " is this a spasm or a heart attack " spasm Friday night so I took the Flexeril. Now I'm still feeling sleepy from that pill & the 2 hours I was up dealing with the pain. That left me with about 4 hours of broken sleep before work. I have called in sick before & they completely understand because they have seen me go through severe spasms. I do feel guilty though, no matter what the reason is that I call in sick. I am lucky that my boss is very understanding with what I am going through. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.  Westgerdes From: ladawki143 <lauramccarty77@...> achalasia Sent: Thursday, August 18, 2011 2:00 PM Subject: Missing work....  I was just wondering what some of you with the spasms do about work.
