Guest guest
Hi, everyone. I'm about 12 weeks from delivering my first child and I am concerned that the labor pains my cause esophageal spasms to start up. I wonder if the hormones that cause my uterus to contract could also cause my esophagus to go haywire. For those of you who have experienced labor with achalasia, what was it like? Did you have any esophagus problems? Did you have an epidural? Has anyone had an unmedicated delivery without complications? Ideally I would like to do this drug free, but I know that if my esophagus decides to steal the show I will probably have to go right past pain meds to being completely knocked out. My doctors don't know anything about achalasia and I need to be well informed so I can educate them and we can all be prepared for whatever might happen. (There are no doctors in a reasonable driving distance who do, and I'm not willing to drive 3-4 hours while in labor to get to a big city!) Any advice or personal stories will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Devin
