Guest guest
Got it. Thank you Cara, Notan and It seems like one month check up is necessary so I might as well go see Dr. Dempsey, atleast he is at a drivable distance and knows 's condition well . I know he had said he tells his patient to repeat barium test after 3-4 months. It looks like follow up schedule follows along these lines: 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and probably will be ones a year eventually. Oh, I have another question. When do you think it is a good idea to have try fried chicken? When I asked Dr. Dempsey he told to try a little and see but I was going to wait till 6 weeks to be on the safe side. What do you think or when did you all start eating anything and everything after the surgery? I am very thankful to God and to you all as I can see his happy face when he eats something new which he was not able to eat before without gulping 5 glasses of water to push it down. He had the toughest time with yogurt which he liked, he use to say that the water would just sweep through it without pushing it down. I hope and pray for more successful outcome stories and we do not forget he still has achlasia and do remind him to take small bites. Guest guest
Hi Priti,  It is both gratifying and heart warming to read of 's progress.  You ask an excellent question regarding when he can eat a certain food, in this case fried chicken.  My surgery was done in another " era " (before lap myotomies were done), and so it is difficult to give a time frame from my experience. I can suggest to you that you should try proceeding a little at a time and see how it is tolerated. We begin with clear liquids and progress to more complex foods. At any point in time there can be food that previously went down fine, but at a later date may not. This is not something to be upset about for, as you said, we are not cured, just treated.  Just try experimenting, as Dr, Dempsey suggested, a little bit at a time to see how the food goes down. I have stated many times, but it bears repeating, that all meals begin and end with a " clearing " drink so that the esophagus does not have " obstructions " when beginning a meal, and does not have food sitting there when we end a meal that can just cause problems over time.  Know that you are doing great with the questions you have been asking.  From: Preeti Mahajan <priti19.mahajan@...> Subject: Re: Re: Follow up appointments after the surgery " achalasia " <achalasia > Date: Tuesday, August 9, 2011, 8:23 PM  Got it. Thank you Cara, Notan and It seems like one month check up is necessary so I might as well go see Dr. Dempsey, atleast he is at a drivable distance and knows 's condition well . Mine only required I wait 2 weeks before having a little of whatever I wanted. The first day after the wait was Thanksgiving and I had a little of everything. Only very little of each item because I couldn't have eaten more that soon if I wanted to. If he is at that time according to his doctor a little moist dark meat would go down easier than white and would give you an idea if there was a problem. I think it would be obvious to him if there was a problem. One thing to remember is that greasy food can cause more acid reflux so have him pay attention for that. If he is still on PPIs there probably won't be any. notan
Guest guest
Hello all, My name is and I'm new to the group. I just had a Heller 6 days ago by Dr. Holzman at Vanderbilt. For my two week follow up he said if I'm doing fine to not drive the 2.5 hours to see him to tell him I'm doing well. I am, except for these spasms (I guess thats what they are?). Very painful but usually go away with a cold glass of water. Taking dexilant at this point as a ppi. So far so good. Went bike riding on day 3, scrambled eggs yesterday and today, along with mashed potatoes tonight! All with their blessing! Just wanted to share my little experience with you and provide any assistance I can.
